BATMAN FAN? Get The Bat-Blog On Your Mobile Phone!

I recently discovered that the Bat-Blog's RSS feed is avaliable as a free download on Plusmo! So, now you can read the Bat-Blog where ever you are! Now, I don't have a fancy mobile phone so I'm not sure how to do it but their website has very easy-to-follow instructions. Basically, Plusmo is a free service to add your favorite blogs & websites to your mobile phone. Now I did read some of the instructions & Plusmo is FREE but they warn that some phone services charge for it so you might check with your phone provider to see. It said that phones with unlimited plans are always free. We want to invite people to get this service & see what it looks like. The website has a demo of how it appears on your phone & it looks pretty cool! Here's a link to check it out.

Vintage 1960's Photograph: COOL KIDS IN BATMAN COSTUME!!

Ha Ha, I seriously LOVE to get vintage photos like this! I received an e-mail this morning from a loyal Bat-Blog reader named John. He wrote, "I love your site, check it every day! I thought you might like this picture of my brother and I (I'm on the left). I figure it's from early 1967, based on the snow on the awning, and those masks were merchandised from the Batman TV show. They were black ski-masks with bat-ears and the emblem on the forehead." Wow! Thanks John, this picture is really really great! I love the expression on your faces. You guys are beaming with bat-pride, ha ha! Seriously, this is a very wonderful family photo & I appreciate you sending it. I know my readers are gonna love it! If any other readers have photos to share then please send them in today! ( Our e-mail button is on the left-side of this blog ).

FIGHTS, FLIGHTS, & TIGHTS: A Superhero Costume Contest

My friend Adam sent me a link the other day to a website where they held a contest for "Best Home-Made Superhero Costumes". It was called FIGHTS, FLIGHTS, & TIGHTS. The idea was to not do an exact replica of an actual costume but to make your own variation, your own style. There were quite a bit of entries & all of them were actually really good. The winner was a cute girl in a retro-style Supergirl outfit. The photos I'm showing here are a few that were "Batman" related. I love when people get creative so I thought this would be a neat post to do. The contest was held at a website called PROJECT ROOFTOP. The cool thing was that the prizes were very high-quality drawings of the winners wearing their costumes done by different comic book-style artists who are also VERY talented. The last picture is an example of the girl in the top photo. To see the whole event click here.

BATMAN Represented in The World of Fine Art, HA HA!

On a personal note I'm a HUGE fan of ART. I go to art galleries & museums, a lot! I read a ton of art magazines & books too. I've been this weird my whole life. So, when I see art prints or paintings that have used Batman in some way it's kind of a thrill. Here's a few I have seen recently. The 1st photo is of an art print by Paul Slater. It's titled AMERICAN GOTHAM & it totally cracks me up every time I see it, ha ha! Paul Slater is one of Britain's most popular illustrators. He has a huge client list & is represented by The Cutter Gallery. If you think you might wanna own an actual art print of this image then visit their website where they sell high-quality prints. http://www.cuttergallery.com This next "Batman" Piece of Art is something I came across on the internet the other day. It's a wood-relief painting that is sort-of like a sculpture in the fact that it has a 3-D quality about it. It's made to look like Egyptian Hieroglyphics from a long time ago but appropriates the Batman character's image....hilarious! Please be sure to click on this to see a slightly larger picture. The fine details to his woodwork are amazing! If you would like to see more of his art then look for a guy named "Gian-Boy" on Flickr. I'd like to give more info about this artist but all of his writing is in Italian, ha ha!

Vintage 1960's BATMAN & ROBIN Carnival Souvenir Photo

Here's a random photo I saw on Flickr the other night & thought it was too good to not share. It's a Vintage 1960's Carnival Souvenir Photo showing a little kid poking his head through a hole to have his picture taken. The background has a painted scene of Batman & Robin. The end result? It made the kid look like Robin....very cool!

This is pretty funny! Here's a fan-made montage showing ALL the times Burt Ward was forced to use one of his "Holy..." phrases in the complete 3rd Season of the 1966 Batman TV Show. Enjoy!

VINTAGE BATMAN Toys & Memorabilia 1960's & 70's

Today I thought I needed to do a post about Vintage Batman Toys. This is a crowd favorite & really the main reason for the blog, the joy of collecting old toys. The 1st photo is a picture of an old magazine ad for the Batman Bat-Cycle Riding Toy that I completely stole off a friend's website, ha ha! He has a great page that I like to visit to see old toy catalog pictures. It's called PLAIDSTALLIONS.COM & you should check it out sometime. The 2nd photo is of an extremely Super-RARE Set of "Official Batman JOKER EYES" novelty glasses. These would almost be worthless out of the package because they are so generic but as you can tell the Header Card says it all. I really love the vintage graphics on this piece, very cool! The next item is from the UK & quite RARE also. It's the Husky Extra 1966 Batmobile Diecast Car made by Corgi, #1202. The last photo is a nice collection of Vintage Signet Paperback Books done around the time of the 1966 Batman TV Show. We hope you have enjoyed some of these pics & if you have any pix from your personal collection then please send them in to share.

PROFILES IN HISTORY Sells Jim Carrey's RIDDLER COSTUME on eBay!

OK, I've done a few posts in the past about this amazing auction company called PROFILES IN HISTORY. This company gets the most incredible Hollywood memorabilia to sell. Recently ( around Dec 14th, 2007 ) on eBay, they sold the original RIDDLER COSTUME worn, on screen, by Jim Carrey in the BATMAN FOREVER movie ( 1995 ). It sold for $10,000.00. Yes, you read that right, ten thousand dollars!! Then, they also sold the authentic RIDDLER COSTUME GREEN HAT. It went for $4000.00. I've been following this auction service for years & I'm sort-of a Fan. They have a very cool website you might like to check out sometime. Right now they're promoting a sale where you can get an original Terminator Movie 6 Ft-Tall Exo-Skeleton Statue ( used in the movie, extremely detailed ) & an original Jack Skeleton figure & Sled used in the Stop-Motion Animation of The Nightmare Before Christmas! These guys always have totally insane museum-quality items!! Here's a link!

Batman Creator BOB KANE Endorses The CHILD WELFARE LEAGUE Charity

In 1985-88 Bob Kane worked with the CHILD WELFARE LEAGUE Of AMERICA to create some Batman-related promotional material, mainly posters. Here's an example of the art work he submitted & his actual letter to the president of that wonderful charity. OK, I sort of have 2 reasons for doing this post. One is to show the historical value of the artwork as related to Batman & Robin. The other is to ask my readers to please check out this charity & maybe send a donation. This is a very well-known & much respected organization that does a lot to help children, mainly in areas of child abuse & AIDS. I've included a link button to the Official CWLA website, please check it out sometime. You'll be glad you did!

Every Bat-Blog reader knows that on Wednesday we post 2 brand new Batman Desktop Wallpapers but tonight I need some extra space on my PC so I'm gonna give you not two, but four, Batman Wallpapers! The 1st one is a Golden Age image of Batman & Robin in a spotlight originally drawn by Jack Burnley, a Classic! I love the 2nd one. This is one of those vending machine rides you see outside grocery stores but I have never never never seen this one before! It's the Batmobile Car from the BATMAN FOREVER Movie!! The 3rd one is well known among Aurora Model Kit collectors. It's the 1960's Burry's Cookie Store Display with an ad for the Vintage Aurora 1966 Batmobile Model Kit...sweet! The last one is a wallpaper from the Official DC Comics website. Please feel free to use them in a MySpace Layout or just to brighten your desktop...enjoy!

JOKER / BATMAN TOYS Both Vintage & Modern!

Checking my Bat-Files, ha ha, I noticed that I have collected a few photos of some cool Joker Toys ( both past & present ) so that gets to be the post of the day. The 1st photo is of a Joker Pin-Up Poster that was drawn by the classic comic book artists Carmine Infantino & Murphy Anderson. Ya gotta admit that this is a beautiful piece of ART! The 2nd item is the sheet music for THE MAN WHO LAUGHS. OK, This is not an official piece of Batman merchandise. But, this is the picture that inspired Bob Kane to help create the Joker & it's sorta famous among Batman fans & collectors. ( Notice I said, "helped" to create ). The 3rd item is an amazing example of Batman/Joker Memorabilia. It's the FIST-FIGHTING JOKER Mego 8" Doll in Original Box with Karate Kung-Fu Action! This was released in the 1970's & is EXTREMELY RARE!! ( Thank You Jimmy for sending that photo). Following the doll is a nice photo of the recent JOKERMOBILE Diecast car made by Corgi. Recently Corgi made a ton of these Batman-related vehicles, mostly many different variations of the Batmobile, but this is one of my favorites. The next pic is an example of a few DC Comics Mini-Mates "action figures" made by DC Direct. I really love the one of Harley Quinn. The last photo is very current but because of limited quantity is extremely RARE. Warner Bros recently gave away a few Joker T-Shirts has part of their DARK KNIGHT Movie Viral-Marketing Campaign. The t-shirt was presented in a gift box with the logo for a fake company called "Gotham Novelties, Inc". It's funny because it says, "Est. 1928", ha ha! The T-Shirt of Heath Ledger's face is kinda cool but I really love the beautiful gift box more. Whew! This was a lot to cover. If ANY readers have some really RARE or super-cool collections of Joker Memorabilia then please send us some photos to share...Thanks!

Foreign BATMAN TOYS: Mexico, Argentina, and Italy

One of the types of Batman Toys I personally like are the "Foreign Toys". They're usually very very wacky!! Plus, it's neat to see a foreign language on them (I think it's great that the character is loved all over the world ). Yeah, I'm kinda weird, ha ha! Anyway, here's some very cool examples: The 1st photo is a "Bootleg" Inflatable-Toy of Batman. He looks kinda pretty with that bold red lipstick, don'tcha think? The 2nd picture is an extremely RARE Slot Car Race Set made by Polistil. I think it's from Italy or Poland. Either way the graphics are awesome! The weird thing is the Batmobile looks like the one from the 1989 Tim Burton movie but the graphics on the box of Batman & the logo are retro 1970's! The next 2 items are from our friends in Argentina. The 1st example is a plastic ring toss game that I have never seen before ( Thanks Paulo for sending that pic, appreciate that! ). The 2nd item is a small packaged puzzle. I think it's a carnival prize or something. It has some really nice graphics that look like they were swiped from Dick Giordano artwork. Whew! We just went around the world. OK, if any readers in "foreign lands" have some photos they would like to share then please send them in today. Thanks!

Four BATMAN WALLPAPERS To Brighten Your Desktop!

Tonight I needed some more disk space on my computer so I decided to post a few Batman Desktop Wallpapers because they're pretty BIG & take a lot of room. This is a nice assortment: 1. Multiple Pattern of graphic art for the 1966 MARX BATMOBILE toy car ride, 2. Batwoman on a Black Background, 3. Vintage 1960's Tin Toy Gun of Batman Raygun, & 4. This is a photo I found on Flickr of a Wall of Batman Graffitti ( The photo was taken by a guy named "anarchosyn" but he isn't endorsing the Bat-Blog ). Whew! My loss is your gain. Remember, we always post 2 Free Batman Wallpapers every Wednesday! You can use these to brighten your desktop or as a background in a MySpace, Facebook, Friendster, Bebo Layout.

JOKER 3D CGI Computer Animation with Jack Nicholson's Voice

Here's an extremely well-done test for a Joker 3-D Model using CGI Computer Animation. It's pretty cool because they use Jack Nicholson's voice from the 1989 Batman movie by Tim Burton....very cool!!

Batman CUSTOM BATMOBILE: 1965 Shelby Cobra Roadster Race Car

Here's a very beautiful car that was offered on eBay recently. It's a customized 1965 Cobra Shelby Roadster Race Car! The weird thing is that it didn't receive any bids. What the hell?! The starting bid was only $35,000 which I think is a total steal. If you're interested in this car you should keep an eye on eBay because I bet he puts it back on. His name is LIFE_SIZE_FIGURES. I think he got his name from the comic book character manikins you see in the 1st photo because he sells those too. He has a Joker, Poison Ivy, & Wonder Woman that are all life-size. Also, look at that kid in the photo, ha ha! He has an expression on his face like he's totally surprised & shocked....funny!

VIDEO: Cha Cha Cha - Batman - Convensión de Batmanes del Mercosur

OK, This video is just surreal! It's kinda fun to watch even though I can't understand one single word, ha ha! It's all in Spanish & is a TV Comedy sketch/parody of a convention of Batman characters. Later, an English-speaking Superman comes by & starts a fight.....weird!

Concept Art: Custom BATMAN FIGURE Urban Toy Designs

I found a very talented guy on MySpace who did some very cool concept art designs for a Batman Vinyl Urban Toy idea. He had a few variations & for this article I picked my 2 favorites. The left one is the Classic Blue, Yellow, & Grey suit ( I like this one best ). The one on the right is the more modern black & dark-grey version...cool! Please leave a comment & let us know which one you prefer. His name is "TRE DEEZEE" & here's a link to his MySpace page. Check it out sometime because his art style is pretty cool.

BATMAN DESKTOP WALLPAPERS: The Animated Series JOKER & HARLEY QUINN

OK, Not to brag or anything, but here at the Bat-Blog we're sorta famous for our Batman Themed Desktop Wallpapers, ha ha! So, at random, I thought I would post 2 of my favorites. Here are some images from the, now Super-Classic, TV Cartoon BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES. The 1st one shows The Batman crashing through a window to attack the Joker. I love this "action scene". Now, since I knew I was gonna post this Joker picture I knew I had to also feature his girlfriend, Harley Quinn! That graphic is from a comic book convention Sketch done by Bruce Timm, the famous director & graphic artist! We hope you enjoy these Batman Wallpapers as much as we do & please feel free to use them in a MySpace Layout too!

POP ART: Custom-Painted 1966 Batman TV Show Postal Mailbox

OK, I recently discovered this photo that I lost but I knew my readers would love it so I'm posting it tonight, ha ha! Here's a custom-painted Metal Postal Mailbox that a friend of mine made. He had this old metal mailbox for years & it was all dented & everything. So he took it down, repaired the dents, re-painted it, & then got really inspired. His favorite TV Show is the 1966 Batman TV Series so he made a special graphic stencil of Batman & Robin climbing a rope. Do you remember the classic scenes where they were climbing up the side of a building & a window would pop open to feature a special guest? They had Jerry Lewis, "Lurch" from The Addams Family, The Green Hornet, & even Santa Claus! Well, he really loved those classic moments & decided to capture that image on the side of his mail box...very cool, we think he did a great job!!

DC Direct THE NEW FRONTIER Series 2 Action Figures

DC DIRECT has finally released the current THE NEW FRONTIER Action Figures Series 2 designed by Darwyn Cooke. Each figure stands about 6 1/2" tall & features multiple points of articulation with a base. In this set there are Batman, Martian Manhunter, Dr. Fate, & The Flash. Of course these figures are from the new Animated Movie & the previous Graphic Novel. I seriously love the Vintage "Retro Look" of these characters. What I have seen on this cartoon, mainly the trailers ( see earlier Bat-Blog posts ), is that this is gonna be a very exciting event for Silver-Age Comic Book Fans. Darwyn Cooke is a really great artist but the nice thing is you can tell that he really loves all these old DC Characters & it shows. If ya wanna see the other figures just click on the "Batman Action Figure" picture or the button below. You can purchase them thru TFAW who has super-excellent service. I've been dealing with them for years now.

Looking For a Cool Christmas Gift Ideas? How About a Batman T-Shirt ?

Arrrggghhh, Christmas is only a week away so I thought I would post a few gift ideas I found at a cool online store called 80sTees. They have a nice assortment of Vintage-Style Batman T-Shirts. Here's just a few. Ok, the 1st photo is actually a sexy Robin Costume they sell but hey! She's HOT!! Ha Ha! The 2nd picture is a close-up of one of the Junk Food T-Shirts they have & I love the design. The Batmobile looks exactly like the 80's Kenner Superpowers action figure vehicle! The last photo is pretty funny. Batman says, "Be Cool, Stay In School". Plus, the model is really pretty & I now you'll like seeing that, ha!

The BAT-POD: Batpod Batman Motorcycle From THE DARK KNIGHT Movie!

Our friend Paul, who owns a store in Denver called Fashionation, went to a trade show in Las Vegas for his clothing store company. While there he saw this amazing display by Warner Brothers for their Batman Franchise. It showed off some of the Dark Knight products like Backpacks, T-Shirts, Jackets, etc...But, the BIG DEAL, was the fact that they used the original Batpod Batman Motorcycle as a centerpiece of the display! As you can imagine he freaked out but managed to get a few very cool photos. So, Ladies & Gentlemen, we present....The BAT-POD!!! Oh yeah, if you look in the 2nd photo you can see the Mach1 Racer from the Speed Racer Movie but who cares about that, ha ha!

Artist Profile: ERIK VON LEHMANN's Comic Art Portfolio

If you're a regular reader of the Bat-Blog then you know how obsessed I am to always find really good material for Bat-Fans to enjoy, ha ha! Well, the other night, I came across the online art portfolio of a commercial artist named ERIK VON LEHMANN. ( Click on the small pictures above to see large, very detailed, photos ). His artwork is really amazing & to be honest there was so much good material there that it was hard to pick just a few for this story! He has a very unique style & draws many different comic book characters but it seems his main focus, or inspiration, is The Dark Knight himself! I can tell from the love he puts into these drawings that this guy is a HUGE Batman Fan so that's cool. Anyway, here are just a few examples of this talented artist's work. Be sure to click the button below to check out more of his original comic art. Oh yeah, Thanks Erik for allowing us to use these images, they're really really great!!

Vintage Family Photo: A Father Plays Batman For His Son ( From Scotland )

This afternoon I was pleasantly surprised to find another great Batman photo sent in by a Bat-Blog reader, I love that! But this photo is very special. It was sent to us from Craig, who lives in Scotland, he wrote, "I've been a Batman fan for as long as I can remember (I'm pretty young, only 19 now, so it's not that impressive!) Your request for Batman pictures allowed me to dig out this one which has always been a favorite in my family. The story is one day, to impress me, my Dad came home, ran upstairs only to come down triumphantly in this impromptu Batman costume (using my Mum's tights! a torch, you can even see the black bin liner he used as a cape). I remember this day quite clearly, half knowing it was my Dad, but half wishing it was the real Batman. I hope you enjoy this picture as much as my family has done over the years. Craig. Glasgow, Scotland. PS: Yes, I did ask my Dad permission before emailing this in!!" Oh Man! This is both an awesome picture & a great story, Thanks for sharing it Craig! Ya know, you're a very lucky person to have such a great dad. Your family should be very proud of this picture. I'm actually very touched by this & hope my readers feel the same, I know they will. Thank You. If ANY other readers have Batman-related stories or photos like this then please send them in, we love to get pics in the mail!!

1966 Batman TV Show: REUBEN WATT Assistant Director Interview

Today my friend Al sent me a link to a very cool website where they reprinted an extremely RARE interview with Reuben Watt, the assistant director on ABC-TV's 1966 Batman Series. It was kind of a big deal then because he was black & the TV Show production company was very liberal about race. There's a lot of very cool "behind-the-scene" photos. Down below is a link button to check it out. While there be sure to look for a link on the far right-side of the page, near the bottom, to also read a very sexy article about Yvonne Craig ( Batgirl ). This is a really fun, well-designed, website with tons of crazy wacky stuff! Thanks Al for sharing this. Oh yeah, the name of the web page is "I'm Learning To Share", how funny is that!

A Bat-Blog Reader named Drew sent us this really cool photo of him & his 2 children in costume. He wrote, "The attached is a picture of me, my son (a 4 year old Batman) and daughter (a 7 year old Catwoman) for Halloween 2005. They insisted on my costume." Ha Ha, I seriously LOVE this picture, thanks Drew! I love the kids doing their "action poses". The Catwoman is really cute & Batman seems to be really into character, that's great! Thanks again Drew, your children are wonderful & so is the photo. We wanna invite all our other readers to send us pix, we love to get photos!!

Wacky Batmobile Toys & Other Vintage Batman Vehicles!

While checking out my Bat-Photo database ( ha ha ) I noticed a nice set of photos that would make a good post so here we go! Here's a nice assortment of Vintage Batman Toys, all Batmobile-related. The 1st photo is one of my personal favorites. It's a Vintage 1960's Japan Batmobile made by The Japanese LEGO Toy Company. Not to be confused with the Lego Brick toys this car is actually a very cool Trinket Box you can use to store your pencils in. I think it's a beautiful piece of ART! The next item is pretty cool too. It's also a little weird. This is a Bat-Jeep "BATIJEEP" Batman Car from Argentina. Shown here with original magazine ad. It's really bizarre & the fact that Batman & Robin's heads are here, but no bodies, ha ha, is kinda strange! The last 2 photos are a really RARE Batman Diecast Car ( 1:43 Scale ) from Great Britain. Made by a UK Toy Company called Oxford Diecast. The name of it is the "Mini-Ice Cream Van, Batman Special". I love the vintage graphics on this baby, check it out!

One of my all-time favorite webcomics is PVP ( Player VS Player ) by Scott Kurtz. It's a very well-designed strip, always funny, & very well drawn. It revolves around a group of characters who work in an office that publishes a Video Gaming Magazine. I've been reading it for years & thought I would share this one comic he did that was all about Batman. It's a short comic strip called BATMAN: MY PARENTS ARE DEAD. Up above I am showing one of my favorite panels but if you CLICK IT you can read the entire story...enjoy!

A devoted reader of the Bat-Blog sent us this really funny picture of a cute girl wearing a Batgirl costume. He wrote, "The photo was taken at my apartment just before Halloween. I bought a little kid-size Batman costume last year for Halloween. While having a pumpkin carving contest my friend Roxy ( Batgirl ) decided to try it on and we got a few pictures." Ha Ha, Thank you Ryan for sending this, it's hilarious! I really like the expression on her face but you don't look too worried! Great stuff, we wanna invite ALL our readers to send photos. We love getting them in the mail! Thanks again Ryan.

CUSTOM ART: Amazing Sculpture Bust of BRUCE WAYNE From BATMAN BEYOND.

I sort of neglect doing posts about BATMAN BEYOND just because there's not that much to report. But, I do seriously love that cartoon TV show. While surfing the net I found this very cool Sculpture Bust of Bruce Wayne from that show. The artist's name is Walter O'Neal & I think it's an amazing piece of ART. The details are very realistic, like as if Bruce Wayne is a real-life living breathing person. I mean, it's extremely well-done! Later, Walter had a friend named Dan "Danno" Cope paint it. The paint job is also very well-done & the colors are perfect. I also like how he painted the base to look like marble & the "Wayne Enterprises" Logo looks metallic, maybe copper?...a nice touch! It's important to note that these pieces were done purely as personal portfolio pieces and aren't available for sale anywhere. I think it was done as a personal exercise just to see if he could do it & yes, he did a great job!! Plus, I bet he's a serious fan of the BATMAN BEYOND Cartoon TV show....as we all are. As a side note I wanna personally thank Walter O'Neal for allowing us the use of these photos, they're amazing & you, Sir, are a true Artist. Thanks! Also, one last thing. I can't decide which one I like best, ha ha. They're both great like they are. The unpainted one looks like a "real marble bust" & the other one, with colors, looks great too. Please comment below to let us know which version YOU like best.

FLEETWOOD CLASSIC CAR SHOW 2008 Batman TV Show Guests: Adam West, Burt Ward, George Barris and his #1 Batmobile Car!

There's a Batman Message Board that I'm a proud member of & all the Bat-Nerds there are in a total frenzy over an event that is happening in the middle of next year & I'm not talking about the release of The Dark Knight Batman Movie either! Oh, just to be clear, I mean "Bat-Nerds" in a very affectionate way, ha ha! OK, Here's the news, there's gonna be a very famous Classic Car Show in Canada on June 6th, 2008 called the FLEETWOOD COUNTRY CRUIZE IN. It's gonna have a lot of special guests who are from the 1966 Batman TV Show: Adam West, Burt Ward, & George Barris are all confirmed. Now of course George Barris is the Legendary Hot Rod Car Designer who's famous for his creation of the Batmobile for the 1960's TV Show. The amazing thing is he will be showing the elusive Batmobile #1 at this show!! This is not a replica car, like you usually see, but "the Real Deal" ...the actual true real-life car from the TV series! Also, The original "BATCOPTER" Bell-Helicopter from both the TV Show & 60's Batman Movie ( remember the classic "Shark Repellent"scene?? ) will be there too. The Bat-Copter will also be available for passenger rides....oh God! Now, I thought I would list this here wayyyy in advance so people can either start saving their money, making plans, or buying tickets because it's sure to be an event that ANY BatFan would not want to miss! You can get more info at their website. CLICK HERE - FLEETWOOD!!

Vintage Comic Book Ad: THE JOKER Sells Hostess Fruit Pies

During the 1970's & 80's DC Comics used to have these advertisements for Hostess Twinkies, Cupcakes, & Fruit Pies that looked just like a comic book page. It was a very clever marketing campaign where different comic book characters would hock their products. Here's an example of one where The Joker does a sale pitch for Hostess Fruit Pies. Remember these? They're pretty funny & I used to love reading them as a teen. If you click on the picture above it's larger & more readable, enjoy.

Vintage 1940's Golden Age Comic Book Cover: BATMAN #47

My friend John recently bought this Vintage Golden Age Batman Comic Book and was kind enough to send us this beautifully scanned photo of the front/back cover ( Be sure to click on the small picture to see a large, more detailed, photo ). This is issue #47 which was a Special Origin story. I love the retro-style Batmobile & the very cool Bat-Plane! Even the back cover is kinda cool what with the Red Ryder BB Gun ad. It reminds me of the Christmas Story movie where Ralphie's mom keeps saying,"No, you can't have a Red Ryder, you'll shoot your eye out!". Thanks for the great pic John! If any other readers have photos of Batman items from their collections then please send them today!

Batman Graffitti Art Mural : Memphis, Tenn.

Hey Readers, click on the small photo above to see it large, it's worth it! A friend to the Bat-Blog named Andy ( Memphis, Tennessee ) sent us this amazing photo. Andy wrote, "I have enclosed a photo of a painting of Batman that was painted on the side of a comic book shop here in Memphis, Tennessee. And here is the kicker, it was painted by...Jerry "The King" Lawler! Yes, THE Jerry Lawler of WWE wrestling fame! He is a Memphian and a fantastic artist. Unfortunately the painting is long gone. I took the pic about 10 years ago. I hope all the Bat-fans enjoy it. I have more Bat-stuff to send you soon. Thanks again and the Bat-Blog is Bat-tastic!" Wow Andy, another wonderful photo from you. I really appreciate that, that's cool. You're right about Lawler being a very good artist. I love this thing, too bad it's now gone but thanks to your photo we can enjoy it. Thanks again.

Custom "1966 Batman TV Show-Inspired" Vintage Vespa Scooter Bike

Bored the other night I thought I would check out my MySpace account, Maybe change some font colors, read some messages, etc & than...POW! When I opened my messages I got a photo from a Batman Fan in Denver, Colorado who totally customized a sweet Vintage Vespa Scooter with a total 1966 Batman Theme. Oh my god, the bike is extremely cool & I knew my readers would love to see it! There was only 1 photo but from that one pic I could tell it was cool. After contacting the guy he turned me on to some extra photos of the bike. He has a store in Denver called FASHIONATION™. He says, "We took our store's name from Batman - the 1960's TV series, episode #108 "Dressed to Kill" Where Catwoman attempts to steal designer clothing from a fashion show sponsored by "FashioNation magazine". Ha Ha, that's so cool! The store sells punk-style clothing, shoes, T-Shirts, & accessories. It's a neat place but let me tell ya about the Vespa Scooter! It's called "GO BATS" & has won a ton of awards. They include, Best Of Show - Mile High Mayhem 2003, Best Of Show - Amerivespa 2004, Best Vespa - Heaven Or Las Vegas 2004, Best Custom - Mile High Mayhem 2005. It was featured in the UK's 'SCOOTERING' magazine - FEBRUARY, 2004 Issue No: 212 (a rare honor for a US scooter). The attention to detail is insane! Just check out the photos, this is an extremely cool Vintage Vespa Scooter to say the least. One last thing, If you live in the Denver area you might wanna check out their store because it looks like a fun place with some groovy merchandise. Sonic 1002: Artist Inspired by The DARK KNIGHT Batman Movie

A friend of mine sent me this link to an artist who, very recently, was totally inspired to make some artwork based on The DARK KNIGHT Batman movie. I gotta agree with my friend that his work is pretty good! I mean, it's cool when people are creative about their appreciation of the Batman character. Anyway, he's done some very neat graphics of Batman ( Christian Bale ), Two-Face ( Aaron Eckhart ), & The Joker ( Heath Ledger ). The artist's name is Josh but he goes by the nickname "Sonic1002"...well done Josh! Vintage 60's Toy Ad: BEND-A-BITTY BATMAN BENDY FIGURE

Here's a Vintage 1960's Toy Advertisement from a toy supply magazine where the toy company brags about how great their product is. Well, ok, it is a very very great toy, the super-cool BEND-A-BITTY BATMAN BENDY FIGURE! But, what I wanna know is this, if the ad says they have sold over one million of these then why are they so extremely super-hard to find, ha ha! The actual toy, in all it's beauty, is shown on the right. The magazine print ad is on the left & if you look real hard you can see that they made 4 different characters. I can't tell who they are but you know they had to have made a Robin. Who are the other ones? Anybody know? I'm guessing one of them has to be The Joker & maybe a Riddler or a Penguin???

The Art of Raffaele Marinetti: Cool Batman Graphics

Recently, while aimlessly surfing the internet, I came across a graphic artist's website who has done some really great sketches of Batman that I knew my readers would love to see. THE GOTHAM TIMES Newspaper: Viral Marketing Websites For The Dark Knight Batman Movie

Recently, at special locations, Warner Brothers gave out a fake newspaper called The Gotham Times ( See large photo up above that is also a Desktop Wallpaper ). It looks like a real-life newspaper! It's even printed on the same kind of paper. In it there are fake ads for businesses you might see in a real newspaper. Well some of these fake companies have been popping up all over the internet. One of them is for the Gotham Police Department. Here's a picture of their website's header with the "Official GCPD Seal"...it looks VERY real! They even made a page for the Railway Transit System with a map & everything. The funny thing is they show the line to Wayne Towers being under-construction because, if you remember, in Batman Begins that section near the building was destroyed, ha ha!!

Here's a few links for some of the fake websites:

"Batman Anime" To Be Called BATMAN : GOTHAM KNIGHT

OK, We reported along time ago that Warner Bros was working with the concept of a special Batman Animated Feature to be released on DVD before THE DARK KNIGHT movie in 2008. They have finally released a little more information. The new title is BATMAN: GOTHAM KNIGHT. The stories' time-line happens directly between BATMAN BEGINS and THE DARK KNIGHT. Sort of a Dark Knight Prequel, if you will. The good news is that it will be directed by Bruce Timm, heck yeah! Writers include: Alan Burnett, Josh Olsen, Greg Rucka, David S, Goyer, Brian Azzarello, & Jordan Goldberg. The story will be told with six different shorts all linked together in some way. A few of the Japanese animation companies that will work on the segments will be Madhouse, Studio 4*C, & Production I.G. I know that Production I.G. has done a lot of work with"The Ghost in The Shell" & they do amazing work. This is sounding better & better all the time. I'm really excited about this, hope it's good.

Vintage Batman Toys & Memorabilia

I know we try to cover EVERYTHING Batman here but our main love is collecting the cool Vintage Batman Toys & Memorabilia. Here's a few examples: The 1st pic is of a BATMAN SHOOTING ARCADE made by AHI in the 1970's. The retro 70's graphics are really great! The 2nd item is quite RARE. It's a small tin license plate tag made for a bicycle & features cool graphics of The PENGUIN, made by Marx ©1966. You never really see this one. They made ones of Batman & Robin that are semi-common. If they did Penguin it makes me wonder if they did The Joker because he's a little more popular. We're always looking for photos of super-rare vintage Batman toys so if you have a few pieces in your personal toy collection that you would like to see here then please share them today! Our e-mail button is on the top left-hand side of this blog.

Awesome Photos: Batman Fan Supreme!

When I checked my e-mail this morning I was very pleasantly surprised to find these extremely excellent photos in my mailbox! An everyday reader of the Bat-Blog, named Daniel, send these very cool pix. He wrote, "My name's Daniel. I'm 18 years old and I'm from Skokie, IL. I love the site, I check it everyday. I know I have more Batman-related pictures around but these are the ones I was able to find for now. The first picture is my Halloween costume. Pretty sweet, huh? My momma made it for me. The second picture is the cake from the surprise Batman party my girlfriend threw me. Isn't she the best? The third picture is me playing with my band, "Dr. Kevorkian and the Volunteers". The guitar is my custom made Fender "Bat-o-Caster". I made it out of duct-tape, cardboard, and black paint. I hope to have a real one made one day!" Ha Ha Ha, WOW! Dude, these photos are really great, Thank You! Even though the Robin costume is homemade it's still pretty cool. Tell your mom "Good Job"! Speaking of "homemade" that cake is pretty sweet too! Mainly because the main ingredient is "LOVE", aaahhhh goo goo goo! Ha Ha, Just teasin' ya, a very cool cake & a cooler girlfriend, cute too. Ok, the last pic. I love the Bat-Symbol guitar & that would make an awesome custom guitar, ya gotta get one made! I also love the name of your band, "Dr. Kevorkian and the Volunteers"...that's hilarious! Well, these pics are very much appreciated & I know my readers will love them too, they're cool...Thanx again.

Anyway, what it is is sort-of an "Instant Message Social Network Site" where you create a little avatar character of yourself & go to virtual rooms to talk with friends or strangers. One of the things you do, when creating an avatar, is you pick out skin color, eye color, hair, etc...you can actually make one that really looks like you. They have all kinds of body types & different clothing. Well, it seems there's a lot of people really really into it & they get very creative about it. There are 3-D Graphic Artists who make special clothing you can buy. The stuff is pretty cheap, like 10 cents for shoes, that kinda thing. Anyway, there's a few people who have made a lot of "Cosplay-Type" costumes for your character that are Batman-related...very cool! You can see the examples above: Harley Quinn, Riddler, Batgirl, etc...I love these. I mean, I really love it when people get creative, that's cool.

Batman Toys: KILLER CROC Villain Character

The other day a loyal reader sent me a picture of an Original Animation Cel from Batman: The Animated Series. The picture was of KILLER CROC who you don't see that often. I mean, not like the Joker or Two-Face. Anyways, it got me to thinking about what kind of toys have been made of that character so I did a little research. Here's a few examples: Mattel™ made a Hot Wheels 2-Pack with a truck that has KillerCroc graphics. I think it came out in 2002. DC Direct made a set of Mini-Mates ( sort of like Lego figures ) of a Battle-Damaged Batman & KillerCroc. Mattel has made a few action figures that are very detailed & shown in 2 different pictures here. HeroClix made a very small game piece figure of him & in the last photo you can see that Lego made a game set called "The Bat-Boat Hunt For Killer Croc #7780"...sweet! Thank you Gary for sending us that pic, it really inspired me, ha ha! We want to invite other readers to do the same or just tell us what kinda toys you would like to see.

Funny Humor Photos: BATMAN GETS BUSTED & MOVIE POSTER PARODY!

Ya know, when it was 1st announced that Heath Ledger was gonna play The Joker in THE DARK KNIGHT a lot of people were very skeptical. He seemed like a strange choice & he always played sort of a "nice guy". Also, He had just played a famous role as a gay cowboy in a popular movie called Brokeback Mountain. Well, some super-talented photoshop artist made this really funny Batman Parody movie poster, ha ha ha! Now, after seeing all the publicity photos of Heath as The Joker, I think he's gonna be great! ( I trust Nolan ). Ok, this next photo is not photoshopped, it's real! It's a screen shot of an ABC 7 News Report video. What happened was in Los Angeles, in front of the Grauman's Chinese Theature, there are people who dress up as TV, Movie, & pop culture characters to pose with tourists. That day there were some local union workers picketing & according to a quote by the LAPD here's what happened, "Batman reportedly insisted on using a portable toilet that was rented by local union workers who were picketing a local business on the boulevard. An argument between the performer and some of the picketers escalated, whereupon Batman proceeded to remove his cape and assume an aggressive posture, taunting the picketers and appearing to pick a fight. Another street performer dressed as Chewbacca came along and Batman apprised him of the situation. Chewbacca then removed his head-mask and confronted the picketers as well". Oh yeah! Batman & Chewbacca kickin' butt & takin' names, ha ha! Only in Hollywood!

The Art of RAFAEL NAVARRO : Catwoman, Batgirl, & Retro Batman

Here are 3 very stylized graphics of Catwoman, Batgirl, & a Retro-Style Batman. These were done by commercial artist & graphic designer Rafael Navarro. ( Thanks for the pix, Rafael! ) He told me he's currently doing the animation storyboards for the new season of THE BATMAN cartoon. Since 1996, Rafael has self-published the Xeric Award winning comic book SONAMBULO. He has a website for that comic. It's a pretty cool site with some great artwork. Here's a link to check out that character.

Vintage 1966 Batmobile HO Scale Slot Car By Aurora & Brand-New 60's Version By Playing Mantis

OK, Here's some photos you can use to compare the old Vintage 60's Thunderjet Aurora HO Scale Slot Car of the 1966 Batmobile ( TV Show ) with the brand-new version by Playing Mantis. About a year or two ago a company called Playing Mantis ( they make the new Johnny Lightning cars ) made a few different versions of a 1960's style Batmobile slot car. It was a part of their Thunderjet 500 series. They are also HO Scale. These are kinda common on eBay & you can find one "Mint-In-The-Box" for about $15.00 to $20.00. I'm gonna try to win one soon because they're so cool! The blue one sort of reminds me a little of the Superpowers Batmobile that Kenner made in the 1980's. Now, Out of the 2 different colors avaliable which one do you like better? The BLACK one or BLUE one? Please COMMENT below.
