When I saw this 1966 Batman Toy advertisement in an old comic book I knew it had to be posted here! I love the vintage graphics & they actually show a picture of the toy ( but not a photo of it ). It's a "Full-Color Picture Projector" that shoots over 100 pictures on the wall including Batman, Robin, The Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, & some guy named "Freezeman"! ( Was this a typo for Mr. Freeze? ha ha ). The toy measured 7" X 7" X 3" & was only $1.98 so you know it was very good quality! It looks like it has some embossed ( raised ) Batman graphics on it so I bet it looks pretty cool! I have never seen the actual toy in real-life so if any Bat-Blog reader has a photo of it please send it to us to share! In fact, if you have ANY cool Batman toys to share please send them here!! Our e-mail button is on the left-side of the batblog.Labels: 1960's, 1966, 60's, Ad, advertisement, batman, Vintage Toys
Just a quick note. Mattel's DC SUPER FRIENDS is a new action figure toy line that everyone is getting really excited about because they take the DC Comics universe and make it all super cute & adorable...goo goo goo. They have already released a few figures & vehicles. Well, later this year, Mattel will be releasing another new vehicle to go with Batman's Batmobile. It's called the BAT-PLANE!

Just received some really great artwork by a freelance illustrator named Rich Yanizeski. This is a mock-up for a postcard from GOTHAM CITY featuring Barbara Gordan as Batgirl. She's wearing the classic "1960's Purple" Costume worn by Yvonne Craig in the 1966 Batman TV Show. Click the picture up above for a larger, more detailed, photo. This is just one of many different styles by this guy. If ya wanna see more of his work then check out his Comicspace portfolio. Here's the URL: http://www.comicspace.com/richyan

Regular Bat-Blog readers might have noticed this week that I wasn't posting my obsessive-compusive 2 or 3 posts a day like I usually do, ha ha! The reason has been because I got EXTREMELY sick! Last week I caught some kind of nasty virus that has kept me wiped out for many days now. I am generally a pretty heathly person & this is the longest time I have ever been this sick. I'm serious, one night I was so scared because I thought I was gonna die, for real, ha ha! When I woke up the next day I considered it a miracle. From the very beginning I micro-managed every detail of my illness & tried to take care of my self the best that I could. Thank god for my girlfriend who took care of me, making me soup, bringing me medicine...whew! What a blessing. Today I finally felt a little better & could get out of bed but I think I'll still be a little sick for at least a few days or so. I'm gonna try to keep posting more so stay tuned! For new readers to the Bat-Blog be sure to check out the ARCHIVES because we have over 700+ posts for you to enjoy. I mean, you could easily be entertained here for a few hours so don't be lazy, ha ha! Oh yeah, I want to thank Zdarvko ( from Bulgaria ) for sending this funny picture of Batman, Nightwing, & Robin eating cereal, it cheered me up! Thank You.
LA MUJER MURCIELAGO!! In the late 60's there was a very low-budget Batman Movie, actually "Batwoman Movie", released in 1968 that is now a super cult classic. The title is LA MUJER MURCIELAGO & it was directed by René Cardona. It stars Maura Monti as Gloria / Batwoman. The basic story is that a mad super-scientist is wanting to create a supreme race of Super-Gill Men so he uses the glands of wrestlers because they are "perfect". Wrestlers are winding up dead all over Acapulco so the call goes out for that mysterious crime fighter BATWOMAN! Trust me, it's great stuff, ha ha! Now for the longest time this bootleg movie has been really difficult to find but now there's a lot of companies printing these on DVD. At the time of this writing I couldn't any copies on Amazon or ebay but a quick Google search will provide a lot of options. Here's a short clip from YouTube:

In response to a previous post here at the Bat-Blog ( the one of the PWND T-Shirt graphic ) one of our friends sent in this cartoon he did....it's pretty funny!! Thanks Eric, great artwork dude!Labels: batman, Comic Strip, Funny, Humor
I know I have been on sort of an ART quest lately but it's still Batman-Related! Also, the responses in e-mails have been really good too. Here's an example of what I'm talkin' about. Here's a picture of an oil painting of Adam West ( from the 1966 TV Series ) done by a modern-day Pop Artist named OTTO LANGE. He's been doing some pretty cool stuff lately & will even have some of his Mego Doll paintings featured in the new Mego "World's Greatest Toys" Guide Book by Benjamin Holcomb. Be sure to watch the YouTube video of OTTO painting the Adam West piece of art. You can also see more of his work at his website. http://ottolange.com

A great way to get original art featuring Batman is to go to comic book conventions. There are many all over the country with the largest being the San Diego Comicon & the New York City Show. Here are some great examples of Batman Art. The 1st one is by Steve Lieber. The artwork is pretty expressive, nice! The 2nd one, of Harley Quinn, is a personal favorite because it's done by Bruce Timm of Batman:The Animated Series fame. The last one is a beautiful example of pin-up art with Batgirl. It was done by Jon Bogdangove. If any readers have some original art to share then please send us a photo!Labels: art, artist, Batman The Animated Series, Bruce Timm, Harley Quinn
Neal Adams is an icon in the world of comic books. There are many reasons. He was very influential in having DC Comics recognize Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster for creating Superman. He brought an extreme realism to comic art & also brought in issues with politics ( drug use, racism, etc..). Then he also did a lot of "wrap-around" covers. Here's an example. This is the cover for Batman #238. It's really cool how the front & back is one seamless image...cool! Thanks Neal.Labels: batman, comic book, Cover, Neal Adams
A new friend to the olde Bat-Blog, named Eric, recently got this 1:64 scale Playart Batmobile Toy Car. It's really cool & very RARE! He sent us the photo & is wondering who made it because he had never seen it before. I too have never heard of a toy company called Playart nor have I ever seen this version of the 1966 Batmobile. If any reader knows please send us some information. I'm guessing it's a company from the UK, maybe? He got this '66 Batmobile toy car in a trade with someone who got it from a Swap Meet in Mississippi so it could have come from anywhere! Thanks for sending the wonderful photos Eric. They're really sharp!

The other day while visiting a blog I had never been to before I saw an ad for a cool Batman T-Shirt. I grabbed the picture but right afterwards my computer locked up & then I was unable to find that page again. Arrrgggh! We have all had this experience before, it sucks. But anyway, the graphic is really cool & if you're interested in the shirt I'm sure you can use a search engine to find it quickly. The name of the shirt is BATMAN PWND. I forget the name of the artist but it's a very cool design.
As all MySpace members know MySpace is filled with a lot of advertising but that's how they keep the page FREE so we all deal with it. Every now & then there's an ad that has a Flash Game to play. It's a sneaky way of "tricking" you into visiting a certain website. Well, late last night, I noticed a NEW one! This "game" features Batman fighting the Terminator. You're Batman & when you click the button you hit the villain, pretty funny!! Here's what the graphics look like. Oh yeah, we're NOT giving away any free ringtones, ha ha!

While surfing the web the other day I came across a blog for a commercial illustrator named Josh Hoye who has some considerable talent. He has a unique style & must be a big Batman fan because in his portfolio he showed a few examples of the Dark Knight. The 1st one is an idea of the "Courage Dog" cartoon character dressing up in costume like Batman. This one is my personal favorite & pretty funny. The 2nd example shows what Batman does to people who commits crime. He opens a can of whoop-ass! The 3rd picture is a graphic of Batgirl that's done in a very expressionist style. You can view more of his work at....http://jhoyeillustrations.blogspot.com/

Today is "Wacky Wallpapers Wednesday" at the Bat-Blog & I thought I would present some more current stuff. The top Batman Desktop Wallpaper is one that was posted at the Official DC Comics page. It's a graphic showing Lobo & Batman face-to-face. This was made to promote the new comic book. Speaking of comic books, the 2nd wallpaper is a close-up graphic of original pencil artwork done by the Batman Master Artist Jim Lee!! Be sure to remember that we post NEW Batman Wallpapers every Wednesday & that we also have a Batman Wallpaper page. Also, if you dig thru the Bat-Blog Archives, you can see almost 50+ other wallpapers! All of these are really great for jazzing-up your PC desktop or using in a MySpace layout. Both the link button & archives are on the left side of this blog, check 'em out sometime...you'll be glad you did!!

A friend to the Bat-Blog named Renato, from Argentina, has designed a really cool Custom Resin Kit of the original 1966 BAT-CAVE from the Batman TV Series. It's scaled to fit & display one of the new Hot Wheels Batmobile cars. The attention to detail is really excellent! On the left you can see the Bat-Poles where Batman ( Adam West ) & Robin ( Burt Ward ) would slide down. On the right is the Batcave entrance that the car can actually go thru. There are also some details like the Atomic Power Battery & Bat-Computers. The correct scale to everything is pretty good & we think he did a very good job on this. Renato is selling these on eBay right now so if you're interested you should check them out. We would like to invite any other Custom Toys builders to send us photos. We have featured Custom Action Figures, Model Kits, Mego Dolls, & more...our e-mail is located on the left-side of this blog, near the middle.Labels: 1960's, 1966, 60's, Batcave, batman, Batmobile, Custom Toys, Hot Wheels, Model Kit, TV Series, TV Show
Shown up above is an advertisement for Sega's 1995 BATMAN FOREVER Movie Pinball Machine. Now, I don't mean to be rude, but this is one of my least favorite Batman movies. No offense to the fans of this show but I hated it....really really hated it! But, I thought I would post this because it's still a really cool pinball game & there are people who love that movie. I think as more time passes this movie might become "better" because people will look at it & enjoy how bad it is. Like the way we now watch 1950's B-Movies & we know the monster is a guy in a cheesy costume but we still love it.Labels: Ad, advertisement, batman, Batman Forever, Movie, Pinball, Sega
September 11th is the anniversary of the tragic event that happened in New York City on 9-11-2001. Pictured up above is a picture of the "Batman WTC 911 Tribute" Tattoo from a serious Batman Fan who must have been really affected by the event. This is probably one of THE MOST famous Batman Tattoo photos...ever! Our hearts go out to all the people, all over the world ( especially in NYC ), who were touched by this event. We will NEVER forget 9-11-01.

Every now & then we post some of the crazy wackiness we find on the internet. Ha Ha Ha! A loyal Bat-Blog reader suggested I make a few Batman & Robin graphics that Apple iPhone users could use as wallpaper. That sounds like a pretty good idea, & a fun experiment, so here's a few to use for FREE! They have been sized for 320 X 480 resolution. I tried to make a good variety with images & photos from The Dark Knight movie for starters. One is Christian Bale in his NEW Batman Costume & another showing him as Bruce Wayne in the Batcave. Another is Heath Ledger as The Joker. Now, I don't have one of these cool iPhones so if you do & you use one of these Batman wallpapers then please send us a digital photo of your iPhone with one of these on it...that would be really cool!!

The other day I received an e-mail from a guy named David Williams. He told me how much he liked the Bat-Blog & he casually sent an invitation to view his Art Journal. Well, I've been really busy but found the time tonight to check it out. Wow, was I surprised...he is actually a VERY talented artist! While searching his page I saw a lot of references to Batman, cool stuff, very original. But one picture really caught my eye, the one of Catwoman. ( Click on the photo up above to view a larger, more detailed, picture). The thing that impressed me the most is that it is not really "his style" but I instantly noticed that it was sort of an homage to a classic pin-up artist from the 1940's named George Petty. I too love Petty's art work & the funny thing is that Williams' art was so dead-on. The picture you see on the left is an original Petty for a Ridgid Tools Pin-Ups Calender. The art on the right is David's appropriation of Petty's style, the drawing of Catwoman. There are a few elements that tell me exactly how he copied his style. 1st is the pose. This "look" of a girl "floating in air" is classic Petty. 2nd is the way Catwoman is all colored realistically but her whip is done in just simple red pencil. Petty used that technique a lot. The 3rd thing is the way Williams wrote his "signature" just like the way Petty always wrote his with one letter having a large swoosh. ( Compare them, funny huh?! ). The 4th thing might be the shape of the legs...very "muscular"! Overall his Catwoman is a beautiful homage to a great pin-up artist. But, he's not some guy who just copies other people's art. He has his own very distinct style & it too is really good. You should check out his page sometime & see, it's worthy. Here's a link:

Here at the Bat-Blog we have been side-tracked by a lot of different bat-stories & we're finally getting back to our main goal: showcasing cool Vintage Batman Toys! Here are some really cool pieces of Batman Memorabilia made in the 70's. The 1st photo shows a carded POCKET SUPERHEROES Action Figure of Batman. This was made by Mego in 1979. You can find these figures loose but to get one on the card like this is Super-RARE! The 2nd item is a favorite piece of mine because my grandmother gave me one of these for Christmas many years ago ( when I was in the 8th grade ) & I still have it. It's one of the few pieces in my personal collection that is like that & it has a lot of sentimental value. It's a Batman Hairbrush made by Avon in 1978 & shown with original box. The last toy photo is a really RARE & extremely cool set of Batman & Robin Walkie-Talkies. When I say these are RARE I mean that they belong in a museum! They were made by a company who also made the Batman AM/FM Radio that looks just like this Batman figure. You see the radio a lot but NEVER these Walkie-Talkies!! I'm not sure of the toy company name because this picture was sent in by a reader w/ no description. Remember, the BAT-BLOG is ALL about Vintage Batman Toys so be sure to visit often. If you have any cool pics from your collection then please send them today! Our e-mail button is on the top right-hand side of this blog. See you tomorrow!Labels: 1970's, 70's, Action Figures, Bat-Blog, batman, Mego, Vintage Toys
Here's the most amazing boat I have ever seen in my life! ( Be sure to click the small picture up above for a way larger & more detailed photo ). This is a 2007 MTI "Batman" Theme boat with two 1,075 Hp Mercury Engines and BPM Surface Drives. It's HUGE too! It's length is 44 feet long! This boat was recently offered on eBay for $849,000.00 with no bids. I'm sure they will be putting it up for auction again. That is, if it has not already been bought by a private collector. This boat has been featured by Powerboat Magazine, and is widely considered some of the best art ever painted on a boat. The custom work and fabrication on this boat surpasses anything on the water! There is over $50,000 worth of Custom Cut Billet Accessories on this boat. This boat took Visual Imagination over 2,000 hours to paint. Even the windows on the buildings are individually painted on. Here at the Olde BAT-BLOG we seriously LOVE the cartoon-style artwork of FRED HEMBECK! Those of you who don't know who this guy is should check out his website ( We have a link to his blog on our BAT-LINKS page, it's called HEMBECK'S COMIC STRIPS. The BAT-LINKS button is on the right-side of this page ). He's a really great comic book artist famous for his parodies of comic book heroes. He's done work for all the major comic book companies including DC & Marvel Comics. Currently he posts his artwork on eBay where he does what he calls "Comic Book Recreations". Basically he takes a very famous cover & re-does it in his special cartoon-style. For an example, we're showing his art of the cover to Detective Comics # 371. His "recreation" is on the right & the original one is on the left, see what we're talkin' about? Great stuff!!! This is an extremely famous Batman comic book cover featuring Batgirl. I mean, it's almost an ICON!

In a previous post we showed a NEW Batman Product from BAPE ( Bathing Ape ). It was a Sweater Hoodie with a cool Batman design & it came with an action figure urban toy of Batman. Here's some really great photos of that toy! These pictures were taken by a Bat-Blog friend named Denis, while he was on vacation, & they're quite good. Here's a few for an example but ya gotta go check out his Flickr web page for more. CLICK HERE!

We like to call it "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday"! They can be used to brighten your PC desktop or use in a MySpace layout. But, for those who did...Thank You, Thank You very much!! What ever the amount: 50 cents, $1, $5.00, or whatever, it ALL helps. For those of you who can't donate money we wanna ask you to please help spread the word about this blog by posting remarks in Message Boards, blogs, your own web site, or even on your MySpace page. We promise that our 2nd year is gonna be even more exciting.
While surfing the web the other day I came across a blog by Chris Flick. He's a very talented cartoonist, caricaturist, illustrator, & web designer. His work can be found at http://www.csfgraphics.com. As serious Batman Fans we all know about the classic comic book graphic novel BATMAN : YEAR ONE By Frank Miller. Basically it's all about the 1st year that Bruce Wayne was trying to become Batman. The main focus of the story was the development of his relationship with James Gordon & the creation of some of his crime fighting "tools" like the Batmobile, Bat-Belt, Costume, etc...Well, knowing about that book is what makes this cartoon so hilarious! The humor, of course, is taking the "Year One" concept but applying it to a "What if? story" about Batman as a little kid in in the 1st grade.....Ha Ha, Funny!
In the Underground Fashion Worlds of Europe & Japan a lot of young designers are really attaching themselves to the iconic image of Batman. I think, to them, he is an American Icon who represents both adventure & heroism but also has a lot of campy kitsch appeal. Here's one small example. A design company named BAPE ( Bathing Ape ) will release a Batman Hoodie Sweater this year for their new collection. It's done in the classic "Black & Gray colors" of Batman with a Bat-Symbol logo on the chest. The hood even has "bat-ears". Like most of the designer stuff it's extremely cool but priced where poor people like me can't buy it, ha ha. The retail price is around $440.00 US Dollars. But, the sweater also comes with a FREE Designer Toy Action Figure of Batman so that takes a little sting off it. Besides Batman they have also done Superman, Wonder Woman, & The Flash. If you're interested in buying one of these you can find it at a website called www.hypebeast.com. Tell 'em the Bat-Blog sent ya!Labels: BAPE, Bathing Ape, batman, Design, Designer, Figures, Hoodie, Sweater, Toys
On MySpace the other day I saw this extremely funny Batman cartoon floating around on a few pages. It's a parody of the famous Art Masterpiece titled "Nighthawks". You know, the Edward Hopper painting that represents existential loneliness in American big-city life. This classic piece of art is an icon & the cartoonist who did the drawing did a great job capturing both the look & feel of the original...and it's funny! I went to the Art Institute of Chicago a few years ago & saw this painting in real life. It was an amazing experience to be so familuar with this image & then to actually stand in front of "the real thing" at the museum. It's hard to describe but it's almost a religious experience. Be sure to click on the picture up above for a larger, more detailed, photo.

I recently saw these 2 pictures at a friend's blog & thought they were so cool I had to "steal them", ha ha! ( Click on the small picture up above for a way larger, more detailed, photo ). The blog I'm talking about is PLAID STALLIONS. At his site he concentrates on old 70's sales catalogs with pictures of vintage toys & wacky clothing. It's a pretty entertaining site with a lot of good memories & funny humor. One of his posts were these JOINTED-GIANT HANG-UPS pictured here. These were simple jointed-figures, printed on stiff poster-board, that were articulated & meant to display on the wall. I seriously love the "Store Display Racks" shown in the top photo. I remember these toys as a kid & as an adult toy collector I have the Superman ( loose, actually hanging in my office ) & the Batman, still in the original package. They also made a Wonder Woman & Spiderman. Something I didn't know, until seeing these photos at Plaid Stallions, is that they made 2 different sizes of each character. They made a smaller figure & a "Life-Size" figure. He has many more photos of this amazing toy line at his blog so be sure to visit http://www.plaidstallions.com today!Labels: 1970's, 70's, Blog, Plaid Stallions, Spiderman, Superman, Vintage Toys, Wonder Woman
A new friend to the Bat-Blog, named Denis, sent us some amazing photos of his custom work. He recently made this "Batqee" Figure with cape & it's awesome!! He lives in France ( Lucky! ) & is a huge Batman Fan. We think this figure is so good it should be production-made. The styling & colors are dead on. I like the "older version" Bat-Belt with the yellow capsules. This figure looks great in black but another version in the classic blue/gray would be really cool too...sort of a "Retro 70's" figure, think Neal Adams here. We wanna thank Denis for sending us these wonderful photos & we want to invite any other Custom Artists to do the same. Denis, you did a really great job on this figure & I know my readers will think the same. Thanks again.Labels: Action Figures, batman, Batqee, Custom Toys
Here's the preliminary sketch by Brian Bolland for the cover to Robin #3. It's kind of neat to see it with the final cover. Looks like he changed his mind on the "camera angle".
