Reference Guide: 1966 OFFICIAL BATMAN UTILITY BELT By IDEAL

I have a good friend named Chaz who is a major Batman Toy Collector and his main focus is the Vintage Batman Toys made by Ideal in the 1960's. Over the years he has acquired a few different Official Batman Utility Belts ( Ideal ©1966 ) & he wanted to share the information with Bat-Blog Readers. Now, as a collector myself I knew there were a few minor variations. But, not as many as Chaz as discovered, it's crazy! OK, it's gonna be a lot easier if I just allow him to explain the information so this is what he wrote to me recently:

Yes, I found many variations to the Bat-Gun Launcher. One has black holes, some have no bat, with an all gray diamond rigged handle. One has a red trigger with no bat, one has a black nose, etc... There's 7 different versions of the gun. I'm missing one...the one with the red trigger WITH the bat.

The Bat-Signal Flashlight was Red or Yellow vinyl with embossed X's on the body, then there's a hard plastic square body version w/translucent cap and aluminum switch. And the most rare is the metal one with the bat airbrushed to the body and the caps came in purple, black, and red...most Bat collectors don't know that the stub at the top where the ball chain runs through doesn't move...the top part is not a button or switch to turn on the light..it does not move. and there's no switch on the metal lights..so when there was a battery in those for use..they ran dead. so when the battery ran out, the kids tossed it, making it very rare and Ideal switched to the plastic & vinyl flashlights.

I got the purple cap flashlight for just $9.99 on eBay in 2004...the dealer didn't know what they had, it was listed as a Bat Light Key Chain! ...no mention of 1966 or Ideal Utility Belt, as it's an unmarked piece. It was the happiest day of my collecting life..I think. But then I went to the Goodwill Fashions Store in Bensalem, PA and found the black cap metal light for 47 cents! They must have thought it was a Halloween flashlight, LOL!

Oh yes, the white belt is a prototype belt and the raised copyright information on the back, the lettering is different than the final product. And with that belt was the Grappling Hook in translucent white and Batarang also in translucent white and Batcuffs outlined in white..these were never played with, left in pristine mint condition.

One of the sets has a rarer version of the belt, where Ideal cut of the loop that holds the Bat-Rope and in it's place they punched a hole near the Bat-storage pouch, and hung another metal clasp ( like the 2 on the other side ) to carry the rope.

There's 3 versions of the Dummy Transmitter ( buckle decal ) one with squares, and one with dots, and it's got a section factory cut out at the top for your thumb, when you go to open the buckle. Then there's a smoother finish tin foil Bat Radio..which they called it sometimes.

In one pic is the rare silver logo Helmet w/Cape.

There's the Helmet in the package with the header card which is extremely rare, unlike the more common solid box. and behind it is the most recent set I bought in an original box..I have 2 original boxes, one of my boxes has rice paper overlays & light color touch up because it was restored. One of my boxes I reproduced myself ten years ago. I think there could be less than 20 boxes known to exist. I have counted only 15.

The Batman Message Sender ( dart bomb ) came with a black or red dart shaft.

The set pictured in your cool top ten list has the more rare Equipment Set Belt, it is more flexible, the Batrope loop is different and most importantly, it has no puncher holes for staples to mount it to the cardboard insert tray.

Whew! That's a ton of great information Chaz! I know that many serious toy collectors are gonna really appreciate that, I do. This one example of a Vintage Batman Toy is a total classic! For many collectors this Bat-Belt ( in the original box of course ) is the Holy Grail! In fact, I don't have one of these at all & have been looking for years. Thank you for taking the time to take all these photos & write the info down, I really appreciate that, thank you. It's insane how many variations there are!

ROBIN, THE BOY WONDER Website Promo Contest Continues!

HOLY WEBSITE PROMO, BATMAN!! The BAT-BLOG is still teamed-up with ROBIN, THE BOY WONDER! OK, not the actual character but the actor who played him in the 1966 Batman TV Series, Burt Ward! For the next few weeks we'll feature a few different contests to help promote Burt Ward's brand-new website. It's called ROBINTHEBOYWONDER.COM & it has a lot of neat information, trivia, & merchandise. Plus, right now, it's about the only place to get Burt Ward-autographed items because he's taking a break from the whole comic book convention circuit thing. While there you can find many signed items like photos, books, & even some Hot Wheels 1966 Batmobile Cars. You might remember last week we gave away a signed-copy of his bio-book, "Boy Wonder, My Life in Tights". This week we're giving away an Official Black & White 8 X 10 Photo that has the authentic "Burt Ward - Robin" Autograph! Now, please excuse my bad picture here but this Bat-item up for grabs is really an extremely sharp, very nice quality, photo showing the "Behind The Scenes" antics from the making of the '66 TV Show. Remember the classic skit where Batman & Robin were climbing up the side of a Gotham City building? They did that by walking on a fake building facade that was on the ground with a background of the sky turned sideways. The camera was also turned on it's side creating the illusion that they were "GOING UP the building". Yes, I know, ha ha, great stuff! This photo shows the set, actors, camera crew, & even the wires that helped to keep Batman & Robin's capes "falling down" ( they had to make the capes look like they were draping down from the gravity )...very cool! Now, here are the simple rules: Just e-mail us your full name / address with the phrase "ROBIN THE BOY WONDER B&W PHOTO" in the title. The contest will run until Sunday, June 7th, 2009 & will end at 11:30 pm Central Time. Then, the next morning a winner will be randomly drawn & announced here on June 8th. Please keep in mind that this contest is separate from the previous one so you have to enter again if you wanna try to win this photo. Also, unlike the signed book, this contest is open to everybody. Click on the e-mail button to send us your entry & then afterward be sure to click on the "Robin, The Boy Wonder" button to visit Burt's new website!

Some New BATMAN ACTION FIGURES By Mattel Coming Out In June

Mattel will have a few Batman Action Figures released next month ( June 2009 ) that you might want to keep an eye out for. The 1st one will be a DC Universe Two-Pack called "Fists of Clay - Figure Pack". It will have the elusive Clayface & "Battle Damage" Batman ( He has mud all over him, ha ha ). I'm really liking the display packaging, pretty nice. The figures are great too. These will be sold everywhere. Now the next figure is a Toys-R-Us Exclusive & only sold there. It's The Dark Knight movie JOKER ( Heath Ledger version ) as a large fully-articulated 12" figure. WOW! One foot tall, a very cool scale to have! Looks like it also comes with a display stand base.

Auction News: Original 1966 Batman Coloring Book Production Art

Last night, on eBay, the auction for the original production art for one of the 1966 Batman Whitman Coloring Books ended at $1,925.00. Now, if you ask me, that's a huge bargain. I mean, this item is totally priceless! This RARE piece of Bat-Memorabilia was offered by Golden Treasures of New York City. They always seem to have the most amazing stuff! Oh well, I'm happy for the winner & he's lucky I'm not super-rich or I would have outbid him, ha ha! ( Readers - Be sure to click on the above photos for larger, more detailed, versions ).

The Original BAT-POD Motorcycle & Costume Props From THE DARK KNIGHT Spotted in the UK!

I was pleasantly surprised the other night to receive an e-mail from a Bat-Blog Reader named Lee who lives in the UK. He had some really wonderful photos of the original BAT-POD Motorcycle & a few Prop Costumes from THE DARK KNIGHT Batman movie. He explained in his letter, "Hi Tom, my name is Lee, I'm from Manchester, England and I am a huge BATMAN fan. Last year I was lucky enough to get a glimpse (and a cheeky feel) of the Bat-Pod and I was also lucky to see all the costumes in glass display units. I have been looking at your website for about 2 years now and find it really interesting, especially being a collector myself. Also once I get all my collection together I will send you some pics. I have some really wicked stuff like Hot Toys, Model Kits, Action Figures, and a few really rare items. Anyway, keep up the brilliant website! I have attached some pictures of that day I went to see the costumes and Bat-Pod. The picture with the guy in a white t-shirt & brown hat is me!" Cool, very cool! Thank you for sending these great pics Lee & also for the kind words about this blog! Getting to meet Bat-Fans from all over the world is really exciting for me. On a side note I am totally jealous you got to see the real Bat-Pod & these cool costumes, that's a Super-RARE opportunity! It's really neat that Warner Bros displayed this stuff so far away, in the UK. So tell me honestly, did you totally want to steal the Bat-Pod? I know I would have, Ha Ha!

Thanks for sharing the pics Bill, I appreciate that. I always love seeing other people's collections so I would like to take a moment to invite all other readers to send us some photos of your bat-memorabilia!

DC Direct announced the other day a brand-new BATMAN BEYOND Deluxe Collector Figure ( 1:6 Scale ). The retail price will be $99.99, ouch! But this doll actually looks pretty cool! Terry McGinnis will have a highly detailed bat-suit, complete with glider wings that measure approximately 14" across. It will also come with a display box & doll stand. Batman & Batgirl "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday"

Every Wednesday we post a few free Batman-Themed Desktop Backgrounds here at the Bat-Blog. It's called "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday"! The first one features an amazing graphic of Batgirl. Some readers might know about a contributor here named "The BATFAN", who has an extensive original comic book art collection. Well, this image is from a convention sketch he owns. I made the background pink because that's kinda "girly" & Batgirl is a woman, ha ha. OK, actually pink is one of my top favorite colors, anybody got a problem with that? Now, for the next one it features Batman with a Japanese theme. This was sent in by our good friend Sean Hartter. Sean is a very talented Graphic Artist & he's been reading Chip Kidd's new Bat-Manga book. Actually, this book was the inspiration for this image...it's great! I really like the Japan-Style Batman Logo seen behind the figure. The figure too is pretty cool, very original. Thanks to both BATFAN & Hartter for contributing to this week's wallpaper event. You guys seriously ROCK!

Batman Fan Goes Batty on MySpace!

I use MySpace to promote the Bat-Blog, stay in touch with friends / family, & meet new people. For a little while it was sort of addictive but I'm OK now, ha ha. Recently I made a new friend named Kearstin. She's a very pretty girl who loves comic books, cosplay ( superhero costumes ), & Batman. The other day I visited her photo gallery to see a new costume she had made. While there I saw this totally hilarious photo & knew I had to post it, ha ha! She was kind enough to share it & I appreciate that. It's just a really wonderful picture ( Thanks Kearstin ). Learning Spanish: Batman in the Latin American Culture!

One aspect of the Bat-Blog that I really enjoy is getting to meet people from all over the world who love the character. It's totally crazy to me how Batman is so popular all over the globe. I think that's neat. Now, one thing I like to do here every now & then is cover Batman-related news from other places but a lot of times I totally can't understand the language. Sadly, I only speak English & if a website or other information is in another language ( like German, Spanish, Japanese, etc...) then I'm screwed! It mainly happens when I talk about brand-new bat-merchandise ( Toys, Comic Books, etc ) I have found outside the USA. Now of course I don't mean for this to be offensive in any way. I'm just an idiot who only speaks one language, ha ha! Well, the other day a friend of mine who lives extremely far away sent me a wonderful list of a few "Batman Words" that are in Spanish. I thought it was pretty interesting so here it is ( Hey, You didn't know you were gonna learn something new today, did you? ):
  • Bruce Wayne is Bruno Diaz
  • Dick Grayson is Ricardo Tapia
  • The Joker is El Guason
  • Catwoman is Gatubela
  • Batgirl is Batichica
  • Gordon is Fierro
  • The Riddler is El Acertijo
  • Mr Freeze is Capitan Frio

Vintage 1970's Batman Toys & Memorabilia - CRAZY!

The true main focus of the Bat-Blog is to share the love of collecting both new & vintage Batman toys. OK, I have neglected that a little bit lately, ha ha, sorry. So here are some wacky examples of Vintage 1970's goodness! The 1st item is totally crazy. It's a Batman Latch-Hook Kit ©1978. This was an arts & craft project where you had to weave small pieces of yard into a canvas material to make a small rug, it took days to make! I remember in my childhood my grandmother actually gave me one of these of Snoopy...it took forever, ha ha! The 2nd pic shows us the Official Batman Sky-Diving Parachutist Figure, Mint on Original Card. Now, you might have seen this figure before but this extremely RARE packaging was for the British UK Market & is different than the American version. The 3rd item is one of those wonderful "generic toys" where, out of the package, has absolutely NOTHING to do with the character. All the graphics are ON the header card. This product tied into the Superfriends TV Cartoon craze. The last item is one that I never knew existed & I gotta research it later for another post because I have never seen them before. The TOPPS Trading Card Company came out with a series of "Comic Book Cover" Stickers. As you can see there's a Batman Cover shown on the top left-hand side. OK, I hope you have enjoyed some of these wacky-crazy Batman items! If you have any weird pieces like this from the 70's then please shoot us a photo.

1970's WWWF Wrestler Tony Marino was BATTMAN!!

A friend sent me a link the other day to a piece of weird "Batman News". In the 1970's there was an Italian Wrestler who, because of the 1966 Batman TV Show craze, carried on the persona of Batman. Actually, he called himself BATTMAN!! He wrestled in the WWWF circuit in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania & later on he became part of a tag team when he joined up with "Robin". According to Wikipedia, his custom outfits were created by Karl & Hildegarde's of Columbus, Ohio. OK, here's the deal, these are the only pics of this guy I could find so I'm wondering if anybody else knows of any. If so, then please send them, thanks...BATTMAN!!

Graphic Artist Creates a Custom 1966 Batman TV Show-Inspired Bell Motorcycle Bat-Helmet!

Oh man, you just have to look at the photos of this to believe it! A good friend of the Bat-Blog, named Rob, recently created this 1966 Batman TV Show-Inspired Motorcycle Helmet & it's now available (this week only) on eBay. It's a Vintage BELL STAR Ltd. II Racing Helmet that is totally custom-painted with NO decals or stickers. The detailing is totally insane! In fact, it took him a little over a month to create this masterpiece of art! Now one thing you might notice right away is the highly-stylized visor. It was custom painted to match the rest of the helmet & has a Bat-shaped viewing area. It opens up & down plus snaps into place with a click. But don't worry, when closed, this cool Bat-Helmet has great visibility! The other great design elements are all the custom-painted graphics from the '66 TV Series. On the front forehead area is the Classic TV Batman Bat-Symbol Logo. I really like the details here, very nice! On both sides of the helmet you can see the punching-sound words, "POW! & ZAP!". There is also an image of Batman on the very back that shows him looking over his cape & wearing the famous cowl. Words & pictures alone can not describe how incredibly cool this thing is & I know that many Batman Fans & Motorcycle Enthusiasts are gonna go totally nuts over this!! I mean, even if you don't have a motorcycle it's still great for display, ha ha! Plus, it's an original one-of-a-kind item that nobody else is gonna have. If you would like to bid on this item or just see more pictures of it then please be sure to click on the eBay Button down below...Plus, if you're bidding on it then GOOD LUCK!

An Amazing VINTAGE BATMAN LANCO DOLL From Spain!

While surfing through cyberspace the other night I came across this extremely cool vintage Batman Doll that I knew I had to share here, it's just WAY TOO AWESOME! It was made by the Lanco Doll Company of Spain. I'm guessing it's from the 1970's. It was not sold in the United States, making it super-rare to find here! The doll is a little boy named TATO & in this variation he wears a special Batman outfit. The costume is basically a silver-age version of the bat-suit & I totally love this piece! It's just so weird & unusual. Plus, it's just so wonderful to look at, ha ha! If any other Bat-Blog Readers have ANY rare or unusual pieces of Bat-Merchandise to share then please send us some pics! THE JOKER From Dark Knight Batman Movie ( Heath Ledger ) Life-Size Paper-Mache Sculpture

On a personal level I really love ART in just about all of it's forms, especially artwork made by children. It just has a very nice charm about it. Well, a friend to the Bat-Blog, named Adrian, recently went to an exhibit of "Little Kid's Superhero Art" & he got some amazing photos to share. Adrian wrote, "I went to a local mall last night to see some 3-dimensional life-size paper-mache sculptures. They were created by some 7th & 8th grade students of the Holten-Richmond Middle School of Danvers, MA. My girlfriend's cousins, who are in the 8th grade class, helped on a sculpture." WOW! These HUGE sculptures are really super-great! Because the Bat-Blog is ALL about Batman I am sort of showcasing the one of the Joker. It's the Heath Ledger version from the Dark Knight Batman movie ( which is kinda weird for little kids to be making, ha ha ) but they did a wonderful job on this figure! He looks awesome! There were also some pieces, equally as great, that focused on Marvel Comic Book characters. They made Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, Ironman, & Dr. Octopus! All the artwork here is really special & I wanna congratulate all the children on a job very well done! Also, I wanna thank Adrian for the use of these pics. Thank you, they're very cool!

BAT-MITE DESKTOP WALLPAPERS: From Batman: The Brave and The Bold Cartoon!

Remember, every Wednesday here at the Bat-Blog is "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday™" & this week I thought I would use a few images of BAT-MITE from the soon to be released Batman: The Brave and The Bold animated TV series. YES! Bat-Mite is returning from the 5th Dimension to create total chaos in Gotham City! The cool thing, is that WB hired the actor Paul Reubens ( Pee Wee Herman ) for the voice of Bat-Mite. This episode, titled "LEGENDS OF THE DARK MITE", premieres this Friday, May 22nd, 2009.Another thing that's kinda neat is that there will be a dream sequence where Bat-Mite has to fight Catwoman, Penguin, The Joker, Riddler, Zebra-Man, Cat-Man, Killer Moth, & many other vintage classic bat-villains...and the retro-style artwork looks really awesome!

Custom Bat-Bike: GEORGE BARRIS KUSTOMS BAT-KRUISER Bicycle By Nirve

Recently, a bicycle company called NIRVE hired Barris Kustoms to design a special edition bat-bike called The BATT-KRUISER! Now of course we're talking about the designer George Barris who created the famous 1966 Batmobile Car for the Batman TV Series. If you check out the details you can see the inspiration here. Mainly the black paint job with the red pin-striping....AWESOME! It costs around $370 dollars which isn't too bad for the great quality. Profiles In History Sells Original MR. FREEZE COSTUME PROP From The Batman and Robin Movie

OK, I know that the Batman & Robin movie was not that great, & the Mr. Freeze character in that film was totally lame, but this is "Batman News" so I thought I would post it, ha ha! You might remember awhile back we reported about the cool bat-memorabilia featured in a recent Profiles In History auction. Well, the Mr. Freeze Costume sold for $70,800 dollars! WOW! That totally blows me away. I always wonder who are these super-rich people who can afford to buy this kinda stuff, it must be nice! ( Yeah, I'm poor & bitter ). But Profiles in History always has some really amazing stuff & their website is worth checking out everyday.

BATMAN TATTOO: The Bat-Villain RIDDLER!

Here's an incredible Batman Tattoo that our friend John recently got. It's of the RIDDLER Bat-Villain & looks totally amazing! He said it was done by Dan Craft from DNA Tattoo in Williamstown, NJ. John, please tell Dan he did a really great job on this. The colors are both sharp & bright plus the shading looks very well-done! Also, thanks for sending in the cool pics. If any other Bat-Blog Readers have had some Bat-Tat work done lately then please send us a photo. Sharing the love of the character is one of the main things the Bat-Blog is all about!

Custom ARKHAM ASYLUM Video Game Wallpapers JOKER & BANE

Our good friend BACON finally ( finally! ) made some more Batman Desktop Wallpapers for us to share. OK, I'm obviously saying this to kid him a little bit! He's been very busy lately but he wrote me yesterday to say he had some free time the other night & decided to make these wallpapers. Now, both these backgrounds sort of have a BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM Video game theme to them & they're both really really GREAT! One of them has the Bat-Villain BANE. He looks totally sick & twisted! I like the grainy-look of the graphics too, very cool. The 2nd one is kinda funny! It looks like a Security Camera Video-Feed showing The Joker...with a gun! Plus, Joker doesn't look too happy, that's never good. Thank you Bacon for making these wonderful pieces of art & sharing them. I know a lot of Bat-Blog Readers will really enjoy them...In fact, Bane is my personal desktop wallpaper right now, ha ha!

BAT-BLOG CONTEST: Win a Signed-Copy of Burt Ward's Book to Promote The New ROBIN, THE BOY WONDER Website!

OK! This Bat-Blog Contest was created to help promote Burt Ward's brand-new website called ROBINTHEBOYWONDER.COM. Of course we all know him as the actor who played Robin on the 1966 Batman TV Show. He's really excited about his new site & he asked us to give a few fans a chance to win some cool prizes. We're like, totally ok with that! So, we're now offering all Bat-Blog Readers ( above the age of 18 & legal age only ) the chance to win a signed-copy of Burt Ward's Biography Book titled "BOY WONDER, My Life In Tights". As you can see it's completely autographed with the name BURT WARD "ROBIN" on the front title page. It also has a special "Robin The Boy Wonder" Hologram Sticker to prove it's authenticity! This book recalls Burt Ward's many adventures that happened around the time he did the 1966 Batman Television Series. Plus, some of his life afterwards. It's a total Bat-Fan Favorite & now you have a chance to win your very own copy, signed by the Boy Wonder himself! Also, there will be more prizes later so stay tuned to the bat-Blog for those ( we're doing one contest at a time but have a few things to give away ). The rules are pretty simple. Due to the erotic nature of this book all entrants must be of Legal Age Only! That means you have to be at least 18 years old or older in the USA. What you need to do is e-mail us your FULL NAME & ADDRESS with the message, "I am a legal adult ( 18+ ) & wish to enter this contest". You also need to put ROBIN THE BOY WONDER'S NEW WEBSITE in the title of your e-mail.
Here's the Rules Again, Just To Clarify:
  • Send us your Full Name & Address in an e-mail with the message, "I am a legal adult ( 18+ ) & wish to enter this contest".
  • Put "ROBIN THE BOY WONDER'S NEW WEBSITE" in the title.

Now, don't forget to include your full name / address, the message, & the correct title. If you have done all of these 3 things correctly then you'll be entered & on May 23rd, 2009, at 11:30pm Central Time, we will randomly pull a lucky winner's name out of the hat! Plus, remember, after you enter the contest you need to visit Burt Ward's new website to see what special events are going on over there too! Thanks.

FAZE THE PUPPET as ROBIN, THE BOY WONDER!

I have a friend named Faisal who likes to create puppets. He has a main character named FAZE that he likes to use for video interviews. Most of the time FAZE wears a business suit. But, for Comic Book Conventions & such he wears a special costume...as Robin, The Boy Wonder! This Robin-Suit totally cracks me up every single time I see it, ha ha! Plus, it looks like it is extremely well made. Good job Faisal & thank you for letting me post this cool pic. I love when Bat-Fans get creative so if any other readers out there have any art or craft projects, revolving around the Batman Dark Knight myth, then please send us some photos today!

Batman Tattoo Art: TWO-FACE!! ( Comic Book Version )

This recent photo of some cool Batman Tattoo Art is from a Bat-Blog Reader named Paul. He can explain it a lot better than I can so here's what he wrote, "The original picture was drawn by comic artist, Phil Jimenez at a comic convention in 2003. I knew instantly that someday, I would get it permanently embedded in my skin. Six years later I finally decided to make it a reality. I'm glad I waited, because I found a great tattoo artist ( Wesley at A-1 Tattoo in Kansas City ) to do the piece. The first step was the outline. Two hours or work and I was thoroughly satisfied with the results. Two weeks ( and four and a half hours of work ) later, color was added. I am beyond thrilled with the results. I head back in two weeks for touch-ups." WOW! Paul, seriously, this is very well done & I'm kinda thrilled about it too! I mean, you don't see Two-Face Tattoos everyday so that's AWESOME! Thanks for sending in the cool pics & please let Wesley know that we think he does very good work.

Cool BATMAN ART Desktop Wallpaper Backgrounds!

I apologize. Today is Thursday & here at the Bat-Blog, every single Wednesday, we ALWAYS post some Free BATMAN Desktop Wallpapers...but yesterday I forgot! OK, I have been kind of distracted lately with other projects so I'm posting 3 new ones to make up for the 2 I didn't post yesterday, ha ha! For the general theme this week I thought I would go with versions of Batman from the 1980's to 1990's. The 1st one uses stock art created by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez. He's always been a favorite artist of mine & I hope you like his stuff too. He did a lot of work for DC Comics including a large variety of commercial art for actual products & merchandise. The next image is from the now-classic BATMAN BEYOND Animated Series that ran on TV awhile back. That cartoon was a total surprise to me on how great it was! So, obviously, I had to include it here. The last wallpaper is another famous comic book artist, Jim Lee. His artwork sort of defined the character & is always a total delight to see. Now, I'm wondering...is there another Batman Artist who's work you would like to see as a desktop background? Just let me know & I'll see what I can do.

The Original ROBIN, THE BOY WONDER, Has a Brand-New Website!

Recently, the webmaster who works for Burt Ward, the actor who played "Robin The Boy Wonder" on the 1966 Batman TV Show, contacted me to ask if I could please help promote their new website. Now, think about it, your real-life childhood hero asks for your help and the ONLY logical answer can be, "Heck Yeah, I'll do it!", ha ha. I mean, I don't have direct access to Burt Ward but he does have to approve everything & the 1960's TV series was my total entry into the world of Batman, which I obviously love. So, Duh! It's a no-brainer...I'm gonna help Robin, ha ha!! All kidding aside, it really is a true honor. I'm actually grateful to help in any way I can. Now, here's the deal, Burt Ward recently upgraded his website with a total new look, fresh content, & new products to purchase. He's not doing the "Comic Book Convention" circuit that much these days but you can still get autographed 8 X 10 photos of him now through his website, both color and black & white. He also has signed-copies of his bestselling book "My Life In Tights" & Autographed Hot Wheels of the 1966 Batmobile Car. I also want to announce that soon, right here at the Bat-Blog, we're gonna be starting a new Bat-Blog Contest where you can win a few autographed items. We're not saying which ones they are right now, that's gonna be a big surprise. But please stay tuned for more information about this in the very near future. It's gonna be SO AWESOME that you're NOT gonna want to miss it!! One last thing, please go visit Burt Ward's website, ROBINTHEBOYWONDER.COM!

Video: 1989 BATMAN MOVIE 20th Anniversary Promos

Here are 2 really great videos recently put out by Warner Bros to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the 1989 Batman Movie. They are both sort of like a mini-documentary with one covering all the behind-the-scenes events & the other focuses on Jack Nicholson's Joker character. Anyway, I have always loved this classic Batman movie & seeing these stories are pretty interesting. It's kinda hard to believe this movie came out 20 years ago, kinda makes me feel old, ha ha!

TOP TEN VINTAGE BATMAN TOYS Article At The LOS ANGELES TIMES

WOW! Oh man, I can't really believe this happened! Recently the Bat-Blog was contacted by the Entertainment Editor of The Los Angeles Times to do an article about the TOP TEN VINTAGE BATMAN TOYS! They have a section of their website about cool fanboy stuff called HERO COMPLEX. They cover Sci-Fi, Superhero Movies, Comic Books, etc... Basically, I was told to write an article about the "Top 10 Batman Toys" & they could be my choice: Vintage, the New Merchandise, or maybe both. The fun part was that I knew we had to go VINTAGE! I mean, that's some of the coolest & most valuable memorabilia out there! So, I collected photos & sent those in. I wrote the article & that took a few days. Then... it actually got published, I can't believe it! Please be sure to read it but keep this in mind. Now, I know that I am gonna miss out on few classic Batman toys that other people loved & in advance, I apologize. Getting the list down to just ten was really a lot harder than I thought. But, after checking it out, I think you'll like at least some of the choices, ha ha. So, please be sure to read it by clicking the button down below & also, PLEASE SHARE THIS LINK on your Facebook, Twitter, Blog, or wherever!

1992 BATMAN RETURNS Movie CATWOMAN Model Kit Painted By William!

I like when people share their creative Batman-related artwork here. I just got some photos of a CATWOMAN Model Kit built by a reader named William. It's the "Michelle Pfeiffer" version from the 1992 Batman Returns movie. The great thing about it is the face, very well done. With these model kits of "real people" you just gotta nail the whole "facial painting" thing! The other interesting item too is the base. Now that's not sold with the kit, it's completely custom. It looks like William found a glass circle & then frosted it with the image from the movie. Remember the scene where she's in the Shreck's Store? She's standing behind an office window that has this same image frosted on it & then she shatters it...very cool! Excellent job on this William & thanks for sharing the pics, well done, Sir!

BATMAN Desktop Wallpapers: CORGI TOYS 1940 BATMOBILE CAR and 1966 BAT-BOAT!

(( Side Note: These pictures seen here can be used for desktop wallpaper )). One of the things I really love about doing the Bat-Blog is getting unexpected messages from Batman Fans who have some special angle on the character. Everybody seems to love the character for different reasons. For some it's the Movies, Comic Books, Toys, Animated Series, TV Show, Graphic Novel or Book, etc...and then there are the "Batmobile Fans"! They are totally CRAZY about the car! They love all the many different variations & eras. They love the "real cars", ones made custom for Movies or TV. They especially like the toy cars too! Here's a wonderful example: A Bat-Blog Reader recently shared some photos of a few cars in her Diecast Corgi Toys Batmobile Car Collection. In the 1st one we see the 1940 Batmobile. This car is one of my top favorites, very art-deco in design, beautiful. The other interesting thing about this pic is the use of the "Dick Sprang - Batcave Lithograph". Mr. Sprang was one of THE major artists of Batman's Golden Age! By accident, the same car is shown in this artwork depicting the early era of Batman. I like the ironic juxaposition here, kinda funny. In the next pic the art direction is pretty cool too. Basically it's a shot of the Corgi 1966 Bat-Boat ( from The '66 Movie! ) but the lighting is really harsh, like on a super-bright sunny day at the lake, & the boat is sitting near actual water. It kinda gives the scene an unusual amount of "fake realism"...but, very well done. Actually, they're great, thank you for sending them. If there are other creative people out there who have some Bat-Info, Pics, Art, Customs, etc...please send it!

Video - BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD Robin Batttles Solomon Grundy CARTOON TRAILER

We also get a first look at the Solomon Grundy villain character. It's pretty cool they brought him back too! On a side-note, something I really like about this new animated TV series is that it just keeps getting better! But, that's just my opinion, please let us know what you think about it by leaving a comment sharing your views, thanks. In the mean time, enjoy the clip!

THE BAT-ROD! Custom 1966 Batman TV Show Batmobile Model Kit

A few posts back we presented a Model Kit Artist named Jim who had made a Custom 1966 Batmobile Car. It was sort of small & cute. I guess the keyword is CUTE because it was done in a very over-exaggerated way. It sort of reminded me of those models I used to get as a little kid in the 1970's. The front tires were really small & the back ones were way too big. The main characteristic is that everything was extremely out of proportion & kinda crazy wacky coo-coo! I loved that style & this Custom Model Kit sort of brings that back but with the 1966 Batmobile. Now, to get back on track, we showed Jim's previous Batmobile Car he made & now here's a newer one that is even bigger! ( Look at the 1st photo, that tiny one was the one we showed last time ). It's a large scale version of the small one and, believe it or not, even more awesome! Just take some time to study the sharp photos up above & you'll see what I'm talking about. This baby is a work of ART, a True Masterpiece! The details are insane & I love all the wacky proportions. It's just really fun & clever. Plus, please take a look at the last photo in the stack & you'll see a Custom Batman Action Figure that's really funny! Thanks Jim for sending these wonderful photos. Also, please keep us updated on future bat-projects...you do great stuff!

An Extremely Cool CUSTOM BATMAN BATMOBILE CAR BED!!

Last week I was surfing the World Wide Web looking for "Foreign" Batman Fan websites. Batman is popular all over the world & I like to see what angle the Japanese, German, British, or people from Argentina, have on the subject. By accident, I came across one in the Netherlands where they featured a photo of a Custom Batmobile Car Bed they had made for their child's bedroom. OH MAN! It's incredible!! When I was a little kid I would have totally freaked-out if this were my bed! In fact, I never would have left my room & would still be living with my parents right now, ha ha! The website was totally in a language I could not understand so I don't really have any details, sorry. I tried to use Google Translation but that didn't work at all. But really, the pictures should speak volumes...enjoy!

VINTAGE 60's BATMAN TOYS: Super-Collector Shares Photos of His Amazing Collection!

You might remember a few days ago we featured some photos of RARE 1966 Batman TV & Movie Props. It was an amazing collection of "museum quality" Bat-Memorabilia. Well, our Bat-Collector Friend Ralph, who sent those original photos, sent some more pics but these are of his actual Vintage Batman Toy Collection. As you can see the main focus is the 1966 TV Series & I love the way it's all displayed, very cool! Now, it would be impossible for me to list all the great merchandise here but if you just look very carefully at each individual item then you'll start to realize that it's all really high-quality stuff! There's the Batman Tin Toy Robot, Kid's Slippers, Japanese Batmobile Pencil Case, Tons of Autographed Photos, Dolls, Model Kits, Action Figures...etc! Oh yeah, and that '66 Batmobile Pedal Car is AWESOME!! It is seriously an amazing collection! First, I wanna thank Ralph for sending these photos, they're wonderful & I really appreciate that! Second, I wanna invite ALL Bat-Blog Readers who collect anything Batman-related to share some pics. REMEMBER: Sharing the joy & history of collecting Batman is the main focus of this website, thanks!

OK, last night I was checking out some COMMENTS to this blog that needed to be approved before posting. Well, like a total idiot I hit the CLEAR button instead of the ACCEPT button!! I deleted about 22 comments made here. Arrrggghhh! So, I just wanted to do a quick post to let those people know that I did not really mean to "not accept" their comments & I apologize...stuff happens sometimes. I was extremely tired & not thinking clearly. If you could please re-write them sometime I'll put them back in there. It was only a big stupid mistake on my part, sorry.

New Video: ARKHAM ASYLUM Fan-Made Movie Trailer ( Not The Video Game )

This video is an extremely well-done fan-made "movie trailer" for a Batman Fan-Film titled ARKHAM. It's done with CGI 3-D Computer Graphics & is NOT related to the current video game titled "Arkham Asylum". It features Dr. Harley Quinn & her patient, The Joker. The sound effects & music are really excellent so be sure to crank-up your speakers, enjoy!

Photo: HUGE BATMAN LOGO Bat-Symbol TATTOO ART

While on MySpace the other night I met this guy named "H-Ball". In his profile he had a photo of his Batman Logo Bat-Symbol Tattoo. I thought, "Wow! It's EXTREME! I gotta post this!". These photos were taken after he got the main black oval-shaped part with the bat done, & then later, after he had the yellow color added. Overall it looks pretty cool! The Tattoo Artist did a very excellent job with keeping the art work sharp & balanced. If anyone out there knows somebody who has a Batman-related tattoo ( Joker, Robin, Catwoman, etc...) then please have them contact us & send a photo. The offer is also open to Tattoo Artists who have done Bat-Tat Work, Thanks!

BATMAN VILLAIN ART WORK: The Joker, Harley Quinn, and Scarecrow

Every now & then I like to share some nice Batman-related art I have come across. Here are some really nice ones. These pictures were drawn by a friend of the Bat-Blog named Marvin Law. The main focus here are the arch-enemies of Batman, the Super-Villains! There are graphics of Harley Quinn, The Joker, & The Scarecrow. The 1st one, of Harley, has been hand-colored and the coloring job looks really well-done. The next 2 are not yet colored & just really show-off some nice clean draftsmanship. Overall, they're very excellent! Thanks to Marvin for allowing me to post these, keep up the good work. If anyone else has an interest in art & likes to draw Batman Characters then let us know. Our e-mail button is always on the top right-hand side of this page.

Wacky Crazy Bootleg BATMAN TOYS From Around the World!

Just the other day I received some extremely cool photos from a Bat-Fan named Andreas. He likes to focus a part of his Batman Collection on the crazy bootleg toys that are made in other countries. His pictures show some really great examples! The 1st one looks like it's from China & it features imagery from the 1989 Batman movie. There's The Caped Crusader, Vicki Vale, The Joker, The Bat-Wing, & The Batmobile Car. But wait! Who's that villain-goon with the eye-patch? I don't remember him in the movie, ha ha! The second toy comes from Sweden & it's one of those "Water Maze" trinkets. I really love the "bat-shape" design, very cool! The 3rd piece, also from China, is a Set of Spiderman & Batman Action Figures It looks like they're ripping off TWO movies at the same time, ha ha! The last item is one of my favorites. I think so because it just has a great vintage look about it. It's a kite with an image of PINK Batman...pink! I wanna thank Andreas for sending these these in, they're all wonderful! Thank you. I also wanna invite any other readers to share any kind of Batman Photos, Information, Ideas, or whatever! Our e-mail button is always at the top right-hand side of this page.

Extreme BATMAN DESKTOP WALLPAPER Backgrounds!

These Batman Wallpapers are EXTREME! OK, Maybe not extreme but extremely cool, ha ha! The 1st one is a photo sent in by a Bat-Blog Fan named Jim who is known for his awesome Custom 1966 Batmobile Car Model Kits. You might remember seeing the smaller version a few days ago. Well, here's the much larger version! YES! It's gonna be featured in a story right here in the near future ( keep an eye out for that, you won't wanna miss it! ). The 2nd background was done digitally by an extremely talented Graphic Artist named Matt. You might remember seeing a few other of his Batman Wallpapers here before...he does GREAT stuff! This one uses imagery from the earlier "Batman Begins" movie & shows Batman (Christian Bale ) flying down to the roof of the Gotham City Police Headquarters ( I really like the Bat-Signal too ). Now, we post "Batman Wallpapers" all the time, especially on "Wacky Wallpaper Wednesday" so please be sure to BOOKMARK the main page & share it with all your friends.

Batjoe & Kids Visit The Original 1966 Batman TV Batmobile Car!

Yesterday, a very good friend to the Bat-Blog named "BatJoe", got to see the original 1966 Batman Batmobile Car with his kids at a "Cruising The Drag" Annual Car Show in Great Falls, Montana! The 2 pieces of photographic proof show "BatJoe" with his kids next to the car & another one where he is IN the car! Now, I know from personal experience that once you sit in an original Batmobile that you never NEVER want to get out! He said that when the kids saw the car they totally freaked out, ha ha! That's awesome!! I would have loved to have seen the expression on their faces. I bet their eyes popped outta their heads, ha ha! It sounds like everyone had a great time. Thank you very much BatJoe for allowing us to share these pics, they're very very cool. As always, I gotta remind readers that if they have any fun "Batman Experience" photos to share then please do! Our wacky e-mail button is always on the top right-hand side of this page, thanks!

Is Batman Dating? Is The Caped Crusader Single No More?

The Bat-Blog has a friend over at MySpace named LilBat. She's a very cute girl & a huge Batman Fan. She says she used to date Batman but I didn't believe her. At least, not until she showed me this photographic proof! WOW! Here she is with the Dark knight himself....out on the town. You can see he brought the 1989 Batmobile ( that ALWAYS impresses the Ladies ). OK, this was actually shot at a Six Flags Theme Park Event, but she can dream can't she! Thanks for letting me use the cool bat-photo LilBat...it's AWESOME!

BATMAN ART STATUE BUST ( The Dark Knight movie version )

On April 17th the Bat-Blog introduced you to an artist named MAX who lives in Bretagne, France. He's the guy who created & sculpted that "Life-Size Heath Ledger JOKER" Statue Bust. I'm showing it in the very 1st photo to jog your memory but the post is mainly about this other piece, The Batman! YES! Max has done another one & this one is Batman ( The Dark Knight movie version ) & it's just as incredible! Just check out the photos. This artist's work is totally insane!
