Norm Breyfogle Fans will be in for a big treat with this post! This is the original 3M cover color separations set for Detective Comics # 615, which was published in June of 1990 by DC Comics. This is a cover proof, that is composed of 4 different acetate color sheets that when put together, form the final cover image that will be published. The top sheet is the black layer (K), that when viewed separately looks like a copy of the main line art. Below that is the Blue layer, also known as Cyan (C). Underneath that is the Red layer, also known as Magenta (M). The final layer is the Yellow (Y) sheet. Each sheet is of a plastic-type quality, and is similar in design to an animation cell acetate. The cel layers are stacked one on top of another, and affixed together onto a large thick white board. The full board measures roughly 9 3/4" x 12 1/2", and the sheets are slightly larger than the actual size comic. Please note that this cover is NOT a mass-produced print or lithograph. It is a cover proof that is created during the production process for the comic, and used internally by the comic company. This is a very cool and rare piece of comic production art that you will hardly ever get a chance to see. The cover features a great image by Norm Breyfogle, of the Dark Knight looking down at the damage below, with an awesome ghostly image of a smiling triumphant Penguin in the purple sky background. This issue was Part 2 of The Penguin Affair storyline. You can click the small picture up above for a larger, more detailed photo. Also, be sure to check out the BAT-BLOG ARCHIVES to view more Original BATMAN ART & Bat-Artists!Labels: batman, comic book, Cover, Norm Breyfogle, Original Art

This one features the Classic Batman Villian The Penguin in a a caper called "The Cuckoo Cuckoos"! Here's a wonderful photo of the Vintage 1970's Batman Diecast Corgi Car Playset #40 issued by Corgi Toys ©1979. It included the Batmobile, Batboat with Trailer, & the Batcopter! I love the "window box" packaging showing all three vehicles & how appropriate that the helicopter was shown above the other two, like it's flying, ha ha! I also like the fact that is has three languages on it: English, German, & French...way cool! You can click the small picture up above for a larger photo. In 1949, a follow-up serial to The Batman, Batman and Robin, was released. Robert Lowery played Batman, while Johnny Duncan played Robin. Supporting players included Jane Adams as Vicki Vale and veteran character actor Lyle Talbot as Commissioner Gordon. The plot dealt with the Dynamic Duo facing off against the Wizard, a hooded villain whose identity remains a mystery throughout the serial until the end. The film's budget was even lower than the first one, and as a result, Batman drives a Mercury convertible. However, the acting was regarded as better than the first. In particular, Lowery is regarded as being a much tougher Batman than his predecessor Wilson. These classic Batman Serial Movies have recently been released on DVD & are on sale now at TFAW.

Their costumes are super-excellent quality, very well-detailed, & are also the 1966 version, which I like best. I think TATTOO ART is a legitimate artform. I mean, it's been around for 1000's of years, some of it is ugly, some of it is beautiful. This is an example of TRUE BEAUTY!! Here's a recent CATWOMAN TATTOO by tattoo artist Patrick Cornolo. It's a sort-of a cartoon version of the 1960's Style Julie Newmar Catwoman & it's awesome, check it out! The details are really nice & sharp plus the colors are very good too. ( Click the picture up above for a larger photo ). I really like this guy's style, he's gooood! His website URL is pictured on the photo, you should check out more of his ART.
Also, Be sure to check out the BAT-BLOG ARCHIVES for many more examples of great Batman-Related Tattoo Photos!Labels: 1960's, 1966, art, batman, Catwoman, Julie Newmar, Tattoo
Recently, while surfing the net, I came across this artist who calls herself "CATSEWING" & she makes her own Plush Dolls of her favorite Comic Book characters. Her real name is KIM, but she is also known as CATSEWING, & her work is quite good. I wrote her to ask a few questions & this is what she said, "They are meant to be a bit 'wacky' as you call them, or cartoonfied if there's such a word; eg: oversized head, small skinny body, arms and legs. They are all totally 100% handsewn, no machine is used and the eyes are all hand painted on canvas. It usually takes about 6 -8 weekends to make one plush. I use mostly a fabric call 'chamois', it is a suede like fabric, only a little rougher. My other favorite fabrics are short haired velvet and suede cloth. I don't really sell them as I make plushies as a hobby on weekends, although I've accepted a few commissions before (usually because the character is fun or challenging ), I'm mostly making characters I like that I either can't find in the plush market or in the style that I like, so I make my own.". WOW! Well, KIM, I think you're a great artist & I know the BAT-BLOG Readers are gonna love these, Thank You & keep up the good work!

In a continuing collaboration, Dark Horse Comics and DC Direct, are teaming to create a new series of vintage-style statuettes featuring four of DC Comic's best-known characters. Modeled after products that were popular in the 1930s and 1940s, the four new statuettes being produced by Dark Horse are designed and manufactured consistent with earlier "syroco"-style figures. Joining the initial release, Superman, is none other than Batman. The sculpting and packaging design is inspired by the art style of original Batman creator Bob Kane, and echoes the look and feel of his first comic appearances. The style, costumes and other details will be consistent with the original "Golden Age" look of the character from the comics of that period. Limited edition of 2,000 pieces. Each statue is packaged in a litho-printed full-color tin box and includes a vintage-style pinback button, and booklet about the character. This item is ready for pre-order from TFAW at a 20% discount. I suggest buying one early because these are known to sell out pretty quickly, I already ordered two of them! Here's a LINK to check it out!!

Now, this story gives me alotta hope! Gary, a good friend to the BAT-BLOG, wrote us about a Super-RARE Vintage Toy he found recently...a 1970's BATMAN PENGUIN PEZ CANDY DISPENSER! This RARE PEZ was a made by PEZ ©1976 and had a rubber head instead of a hard plastic head. They also made a Batman, Batgirl, Wonder Woman, & Joker. All of these are extremely RARE! He said he went to a local Goodwill Thrift Store to look for a coffee Table for his new apartment. While there he was browsing thru the books & walked by the toys section when all of a sudden he was shocked to see this Penguin PEZ in a large plastic bag filled with small toys. He said the bag was mostly McDonalds Happy Meal Toys but for some reason this PEZ caught his eye! He told us the bag cost around $5.00 & he was so excited he totally forgot to buy a new coffee table, ha ha!! WOW! Thanx for sharing this story with us Gary, we hate you!! Just kidding, congradulations on his RARE toy find! You are one extremely lucky guy!!
Our dear friend Ramiro, from Argentina, recently sent these wonderful pictures showing a few plastic figures from his personal vintage toy collection. ( Click the small picture up above for a larger, more detailed, photo ). He says, "These were made in 1980 - 1981 & are very very hard-to-find! These were prizes & premiums from different companies in Argentina, Brazil, & Italy. SUPERMAN, BATMAN, ROBIN, SUPERGIRL, ROBIN, and FLASH .....were made in Argentina & Italy for PATATOS. JOKER, CATWOMAN, PENGUIN, RIDDLER, HAWKMAN, SHAZAM, CLARK KENT, AQUAMAN, GREEN LANTERN, GREEN ARROW, were made in Brazil for the Pepsi-Cola Company's Promotion". The photos above mainly show the Batman-related figures but they are all really well done with nice details. Because of their small size I could see how they would be difficult to find & are a great addition to the BAT-BLOG Photo Collection, Thank You Ramiro! I know the BAT-BLOG Readers are gonna really like these! Readers, be sure to check the 300+ posts in the BAT-BLOG ARCHIVES for many other RARE New & Vintage Batman Toys!Labels: Argentina, Batgirl, batman, Catwoman, DC Comics, joker, Penguin, Robin, Vintage Toys

When I was a very very young comic book collector I used to go to this really great comic book shop here in Oklahoma City called DOWN MEMORY LANE ( I have always loved that name ). Anyway, I would buy some comics & the owner was a really nice guy. He would sometimes give me a FREE issue of the Comic Reader, he would just sneak it into the bag while I wasn't looking & it was always a nice surprise. Well, recently I found 2 copies on the internet both with Batman Covers! One is done by Mike Grell & the other has awesome artwork by Jim Aparo. Both are legends in the comic art world! I thought these would be nice to share because they are SUPER-RARE, have great artwork, & might bring back some fond memories for BAT-BLOG Readers who are older like me! In the BAT-BLOG LINKS PAGE you will find a link to the Official MIKE GRELL Website, check it out for more awesome Batman art!Labels: art, artist, batman, comic book, Jim Aparo, Mike Grell, Original Art

About a month ago I found this guy on eBay named DIVER who makes these really neat resin-model HEADS you can add to your own doll bodies to have extremely cool custom action figures! They are scaled for 12" dolls, think LARGE GI Joe Doll. They come unpainted but the sculpts are really nice! I'm only showing a few examples of the Batman-related ones he made but he also did alot of "real people" like Bruce Willis.Labels: Action Figure, Batgirl, batman, Custom Toys, joker, Toys

Steve Stanley is an artist who, you can tell, really loves the 1966 Batman TV Series! He's done a few paintings, pencil drawings, & graphic art prints featuring the classic Batman TV characters. While they are all great, this is one of my favorites! This one features a very realisitic drawing of Yvonne Craig as Batgirl. She will always be THE Batgirl for me, on one will ever replace her! I met her once at a comic convention & she's a very sweet lady. She's funny, nice, & very down to earth.
