NEW YORK COMIC-CON February 23-24, 2007 NYC

The date for the next NEW YORK COMIC-CON will be on Feb 23rd & 24th, 2007 in New York City. There will be some BATMAN Artists & Writers there: 1. PAUL DINI was the Emmy Award-winning writer and co-producer of Batman Adventures, and the producer/writer of the Batman and Superman animated television series. Dini has won five Emmys for his television work and seven Eisners for his comic book work. He is currently writing the comic book adventures of the Batman in a critically acclaimed story arc in Detective Comics. 2. NEAL ADAMS is a towering figure in the world of comic book creation and art. Neal has had legendary ‘runs’ on Batman, X-Men, Green Lantern-Green Arrow and Deadman. Adams rescued Batman from the campy nostalgia of the television show, and re-fitted him in his present incarnation as an “Avenger of the Night.” When people say ‘modern Batman,’ they mean Neal Adams’ Batman. His run on Batman led directly to the new, more realistic incarnation in “Batman Returns” movie, which featured the character he created, Ras Al Ghul. 3. MICHAEL BAIR , Aztec Ace, the Huntress were early strips he 1st gained attention on. Young All-Stars,Secret Origins, Infinity Inc.,were some of the books pencilled, before switching primarily to inking with the Catwoman/mini-series. 4. SIMONE BIANCHI was born and lives in Lucca, Italy. After publishing 3 Artbooks and a sciencefiction trilogy (Ego Sum) in Europe, drawn and written by himself , in 2005 he painted and drew the DC miniseries of 4 issues SHINING KNIGHT, written by Grant Morrison. He did different covers for DC characters such as Green Lantern, Batman and Detective Comics and the interior pages of Green Lantern #6, script by Geoff Johns; after doing some X-Men unlimited covers for MARVEL, in February 2006 he signed an Exclusive Contract with MARVEL, for which he is drawing WOLVERINE issue #50 and the following 5, while still doing one Detective Comics cover a month. And many many more! For more information check out their website.

BATMAN DETECTIVE COMICS # 615 COVER PROOF with NORM BREYFOGLE ART

Norm Breyfogle Fans will be in for a big treat with this post! This is the original 3M cover color separations set for Detective Comics # 615, which was published in June of 1990 by DC Comics. This is a cover proof, that is composed of 4 different acetate color sheets that when put together, form the final cover image that will be published. The top sheet is the black layer (K), that when viewed separately looks like a copy of the main line art. Below that is the Blue layer, also known as Cyan (C). Underneath that is the Red layer, also known as Magenta (M). The final layer is the Yellow (Y) sheet. Each sheet is of a plastic-type quality, and is similar in design to an animation cell acetate. The cel layers are stacked one on top of another, and affixed together onto a large thick white board. The full board measures roughly 9 3/4" x 12 1/2", and the sheets are slightly larger than the actual size comic. Please note that this cover is NOT a mass-produced print or lithograph. It is a cover proof that is created during the production process for the comic, and used internally by the comic company. This is a very cool and rare piece of comic production art that you will hardly ever get a chance to see. The cover features a great image by Norm Breyfogle, of the Dark Knight looking down at the damage below, with an awesome ghostly image of a smiling triumphant Penguin in the purple sky background. This issue was Part 2 of The Penguin Affair storyline. You can click the small picture up above for a larger, more detailed photo. Also, be sure to check out the BAT-BLOG ARCHIVES to view more Original BATMAN ART & Bat-Artists!

ORIGINAL VINTAGE 1949 BATMAN Serial Movie Poster

In 1949, a follow-up serial to The Batman, Batman and Robin, was released. Robert Lowery played Batman, while Johnny Duncan played Robin. Supporting players included Jane Adams as Vicki Vale and veteran character actor Lyle Talbot as Commissioner Gordon. The plot dealt with the Dynamic Duo facing off against the Wizard, a hooded villain whose identity remains a mystery throughout the serial until the end. The film's budget was even lower than the first one, and as a result, Batman drives a Mercury convertible. However, the acting was regarded as better than the first. In particular, Lowery is regarded as being a much tougher Batman than his predecessor Wilson. These classic Batman Serial Movies have recently been released on DVD & are on sale now at TFAW. BATGIRL & CATWOMAN PLUSH DOLLS Custom Toys

Recently, while surfing the net, I came across this artist who calls herself "CATSEWING" & she makes her own Plush Dolls of her favorite Comic Book characters. Her real name is KIM, but she is also known as CATSEWING, & her work is quite good. I wrote her to ask a few questions & this is what she said, "They are meant to be a bit 'wacky' as you call them, or cartoonfied if there's such a word; eg: oversized head, small skinny body, arms and legs. They are all totally 100% handsewn, no machine is used and the eyes are all hand painted on canvas. It usually takes about 6 -8 weekends to make one plush. I use mostly a fabric call 'chamois', it is a suede like fabric, only a little rougher. My other favorite fabrics are short haired velvet and suede cloth. I don't really sell them as I make plushies as a hobby on weekends, although I've accepted a few commissions before (usually because the character is fun or challenging ), I'm mostly making characters I like that I either can't find in the plush market or in the style that I like, so I make my own.". WOW! Well, KIM, I think you're a great artist & I know the BAT-BLOG Readers are gonna love these, Thank You & keep up the good work! Readers, click the picture up above for a larger, more detailed, photo!

DARKHORSE COMICS & DC DIRECT Classic DC Heroes GOLDEN AGE BATMAN STATUE

In a continuing collaboration, Dark Horse Comics and DC Direct, are teaming to create a new series of vintage-style statuettes featuring four of DC Comic's best-known characters. Modeled after products that were popular in the 1930s and 1940s, the four new statuettes being produced by Dark Horse are designed and manufactured consistent with earlier "syroco"-style figures. Joining the initial release, Superman, is none other than Batman. The sculpting and packaging design is inspired by the art style of original Batman creator Bob Kane, and echoes the look and feel of his first comic appearances. The style, costumes and other details will be consistent with the original "Golden Age" look of the character from the comics of that period. Limited edition of 2,000 pieces. Each statue is packaged in a litho-printed full-color tin box and includes a vintage-style pinback button, and booklet about the character. This item is ready for pre-order from TFAW at a 20% discount. I suggest buying one early because these are known to sell out pretty quickly, I already ordered two of them! YVONNE CRAIG BATGIRL Graphic Picture ART By STEVE STANLEY

Steve Stanley is an artist who, you can tell, really loves the 1966 Batman TV Series! He's done a few paintings, pencil drawings, & graphic art prints featuring the classic Batman TV characters. While they are all great, this is one of my favorites! This one features a very realisitic drawing of Yvonne Craig as Batgirl. She will always be THE Batgirl for me, on one will ever replace her! I met her once at a comic convention & she's a very sweet lady. She's funny, nice, & very down to earth. If you want to enjoy more of his art then check out the BAT-BLOG BAT-LINKS PAGE for his link button. The BAT-LINKS Button is located on the top right-hand side of this blog ( you might have to go to the main page ).

Batman Joins The KGB? Batman Logo in Russia!

Recently President Putin of Russia went on a tour of the new goverment facilty for the GRU. The "Glavnoye Razvedyvatelnoye Upravlenie" is the Main Intelligence Directorate. This is sort of like a Russian version of the CIA. Up above are 2 photos showing the logo-graphic for this organization. The top one is an official BBC News Photo showing President Putin admiring the logo on the lobby's new tile floor. The 2nd is a graphic from their GRU webpage. Does it look familuar?? Ha ha, This is not a fake humor photo but the real deal. Actually, in Russia, the BAT is a symbol for stealth, secretcy, & honor. I guess Batman works for the KGB now!!
