Anybody Ever Seen This Batman Poster?

A friend to the Bat-Blog recently asked if I knew where he could find this obscure BATMAN Poster. I told him I have never seen it before. I'm guessing that it's a "foreign release", probably from the UK, or maybe just some very obscure Promo Poster. About the only thing he knows about this item is that the artwork was done by Drew Struzan. So, I'm asking all the Bat-Blog Readers if any of you know anything about this poster please leave a comment or send us an e-mail, thanks.

That one was floating around the US back in the late seventies by artist Drew Struzman. It was part of a series that included similar treatments of Superman, Spider-man and the Hulk.

I don't think it was UK only since I've never been there and personally saw this in stores.

I have this and a Superman poster from the late 70's that I've had since I was a kid. No idea who did the art but it is beautiful, powerful work. My posters are well worn having been put up and removed and moved a million times. They use to advertise them in the back of of Warren magazines I think for a whick... Creepy, Eerie, Vampy... ? I got mine from a rack in an now closed department store chain in Canada called Towers.

The style looks a lot like Steve Rude but he would have been a young teen then and not that god yet.

Hope this helps.

I remember seeing ths poster at my local (Richmond, VA) A&P supermarket in the mid-late 1970's.

I remember it - because it is so distinctive and I really, REALLY wanted it.

When I finally saved enough money to buy it (about $3.50) it was sold out.

It was part of a series of "realitic" DC posters including Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

This poster was painted by Drew Struzan. Drew is currently one of the finest and most in demand illustrators in this country. He has painted countless movie posters, along with many book and magazine covers. He even has a hardcover book detailing his career.

Drew painted this in 1977 (possibly the first realistically painted Batman image ever). I have a copy of the poster and was going to include it, along with Drew's comments in my upcoming book THE BATCAVE COMPANION. Unfortunately, the story about the poster didn't make the final cut of the book (space limitations). Maybe, someday, I'll write an article for BACK ISSUE magazine about this poster, along with the other posters in this series from the mid-1970s.

Hello:
I´m writting from Mexico, City, i still have one copy of this poster, it´s one of my precious treasures, it´s not in mint condition, but still looks good.
I can remeber like yesterday, how manny things i has to promise to my mother, to convince her to buy this poster, i can´t remember if i paid my due.
It was in 1973 circa.
One thing, mine has not the comic type drawings down the Batman it´s only the big batman.
For the memories, a thousand thanks, besides, i don´t even knew the name of the artist.

Everyone beat me to it:

It's Drew Struzman's work. He's a deeply talented and recently retired artist of remarkable work. You may know him best from his official move posters for the Indiana Jones films. He's also worked on the Harry Potter films and has some outstanding Star Wars work to his credit.

He's worked on so many things and all were simply great.

I do remember this poster from the 70's and it, with the superman ( mentioned earlier )poster, are stunning.

Good Luck with this one.

I had this when I was a kid and have always love the image. I've been trolling ebay for it for years and have only seen it once. The bidding quickly outpaced my budget then.

This is what is so cool about the batblog. Being a batfreak since I was a kid, a lot of the posts her bring up vivid childhood memories.

Yes, the 4 DC versions are easily found on the internet, but there are also 4 Marvel versions, tho not painted as nicely.

The artists on the Marvel posters lifted Kirby poses for those, especially on Captain America and the Thor poster paintings...The Hulk image is especially good..The Marvel ones were also offered in ads in their comics around May of 1978 or so, the DC ones not so much...

And that great Struzan BATMAN poster has been hangin' in my home for over 14 years now...

I also saw it as a T-shirt iron-on in the early 80s...

In addition to the other posters mentioned, I believe there was a Tarzan also.

I didn't realize this series was ever available for sale but did know that it was one of the prizes in the Clark Bar giveaway featured in many comics of the era.

If one looks closely at the ad, you will see line drawings of the posters.

Man I wish I had my Batman poster back. I don't even know what happened to it.

The Batman poster was sold along with a similar style of Superman and Spider-man. I bought the Superman version at Six Flags Over Texas in 1980.

The poster is currently framed and hanging above my computer desk.

It was printed in 1977 by a company named Dream Factory. They did other posters in the same style of Superman, Wonder Woman (shown in an episode of the series with Lynda Carter), Spider-Man, and the Hulk.

Sorry. Company name is Thought Factory, based in Sheman Oaks, CA.
