1966 BATMAN BAT-BOAT MOVIE VEHICLE : Popular Mechanics Magazine

For fans of the 1960's Batman Movie here's a neat collectible to keep an eye out for, the September 1966 issue of Popular Mechanics magazine. They did a special story about the Bat-Boat used in the film & it's a very obscure piece of Bat-Memorabilia. It was originally made by the Glastron Boat Company in Austin, TX.

I'm e-mailing you some pics from my blog about this boat. Glastron not only had an office in Austin, but a manufacturing plant in New Braunfels, not too far from where I live. I worked with one of the guys that worked on this boat!

Enjoy

In Tyler, Texas where I grew up, I lived down the street from a Glastron Boat dealer named Floyd Crawley.

He was given the Batboat by Glastron.
Mr. Crawley, who has since passed away, was a Shriner. He put the Batboat on a Volkswagon chasis, and drove it in local parades.

I think the Batboat is now in a museum someplace.

Tad Tyler restored this batboat in 1991 in Tyler Texas for Floyd for
free because of his work with kids
