Batman # 171 - First Silver-Age Appearance of The Riddler

OK, every now & then we post a classic Batman Comic Book Cover because the art work is cool but here's one where it marks a very historical moment in Bat-History! This comic book, Batman # 171, was the very FIRST SILVER-AGE APPEARANCE of THE RIDDLER as a character! Plus, the silver-age artwork by Carmine Infantino is pretty great too! Be sure to click on the picture above for a larger, more detailed, photo. Plus, remember to check the BAT-BLOG ARCHIVES for many many more classic Batman comic book covers & art!

This was the Riddler's first SILVER-AGE appearance after a long absence.

I must humbly disagree with your mention of Batman number 171 being the first appearance of the Riddler. It was the first appearance of the Riddler in the Silver Age of DC. The Riddler originally appeared in Detective Comics number 140, Dec. 1948.

Yes, I know it was the SILVER AGE appearance, sorry. I meant to write that & have now fixed it....I was really tired when doing that post, ha ha! Thanx for keeping me on my toes!

This comic is also significant in that the premiere episode of the 1966 Batman series, "Hi Diddle Riddle"/"Smack In The Middle," is based on this comic. Molly the Mole is not present here, but the Mole Hill Mob is. The comic is also an excellent read as well!
